hi everyone

we have bought a 95 eclipse with around 64K miles on it. seller told me that he replaced timing belt at 60K, yet, also, admitted that he bought the car for flip. so i have my doubts on if he did it, considering how labor taking it is.

unlike 94 models, sprockets cover can't be removed easily to check on belt. this one has only small removable lid. i removed it yesterday, not much i can see or tell about the belt condition through it, as most of the belt is covered by sprocket cover.

any ideas how to determine if he DID replace it? been bugging me ever since, considering it's interference motor.

There's really no way to tell when it was replaced. If the guy doesnt have reciepts for the timing belt install then i would replace the timing belt for peace of mind;)

Play it safe and change it. You will kick yourself if your on the side of the road with 8-16 bent valves, cracked pistons and a shredded belt in your hand.

new tensioner and water pump would be a great investment aswell ;)

i just got my timing belt done (with new tensioner and water pump and pulleys). The bottom pulley was too big (the lip) so the mechanic put on the old one and the new pulley on the top worked fine. I worked the belt in, but now when i got WOT, the engine sounds ALOT louder and i hear a ticking noise (in high RPM's). The timing obviously works bc the engine didn't grenade. i talked to the mechanic and he said to ask about timing after installing the belt (retardation or w.e), etc. Please help!
