ok i have searched the threads and have found no answers that help me i have a 97 eclipse rs 5 speed i left a stop light this morning hit 6 grand in first shifted into second and heard a loud pop, slap, clank somthing along those lines cant really describe the sound. 2nd gear worked fine got to the next light and kept it slow but i had noticed 2nd 4th and R were gone. also theres a twist i went to change my speed sensor the other day and noticed the drive gear for the speed sensor was really loose and making noise ant to top it off i lost the speed sensor gear in the tranny so do you guys still think it a cable or linkage or did the loose speed sensor gear screw up my tranny

sounds like a shifter cable the one cable controls 1,3,5 the other 2,4,reverse i would check that

just grab them from a junkyard eclipse. i got my shifter cables for $20

if those cables were bad you shouldnt be able to go into any gear, not just 1/3/5

one controls 1-2 3-4 5-r and the other moves it to which set, 1&2 3&4 or 5&R

That's odd because when that happened to me and I replaced the broken shifter cable it fixed the problem.

no it doesnt. ive had one cable go bad and i couldnt touch first thrid or 5th second forth and reverse worked perfectly fine

so heres what happened one of the clips on the shifter cable popped out under the hood so i replaced the cables anyway new clips and walah shifts much smoother and i now have all my gears the only reason i had 1 3 and 5 was because in the forward position i was pulling the cable and 2 4 and r wouldent work cause the cable was loose and i was unable to push the cable it just floped around
