I have a 95 talon tsi awd automatic.

I was driving to work this morning and there was a big dip in the road, I didnt bottom out so nothing is cracked.Every since I went into the dip the car wont change from 2nd to 3rd gear and also the gear selector wont let me put it down in L gear.I was told to take out the center console and look at the shifter cables. With me being new to all this I am not sure what its supposed to look like and not supposed to look like.If anybody can help so I can drive home from work because I dont want to tear the trans up.Thanks for all your help

Shannon

Also I wanted to know if anybody knew of a price range it would cost to convert it from an auto to a manual

I got a price earlier from Extreme motorsports for $3500

what about the other end of the linkage - the one that attaches to the tranny, which is towards the rear part of the tranny case? If you got Turbo, wonder if an IC piping shook loose and jammed into the linkage causing you not to shift?

I took the console out and I noticed that the cable that is conected to the shift lever is exstended and it wont retract, if I put the car in low gear and then push it back up to drive it wont go back in drive it will stay in low gear and now it wont even go back in park unless I flip the little lever with my finger. It seems as though if I put the car in any gear other then drive it will be stuck in that gear

Its def not the piping.I think I need a new shift cable.Any ideal on a price? Thanks

Unhook the cable from the plate on top of the transmission. Try to turn the plate and make it go through all the positions. It should shift smoothly from position to position. It is doesn't, you might have broken your manual valve or it could simply be stuck.

installing the shift cables is not that hard to do. maybe a 20 min process. and all you would need are some basic tools. i jus replaced both shift linkages in my dsm. (ony difference is mine is a standard) took me a good 20 to 30 min to completely have it ready to drive. i think the hardest part was getting both cables through the firewall. and getting the boot locked into place. only reason because i have big hands and puttin them in the small place didnt work out so well. let us know on the updates as you are doing this.

as for switching from an automatic to a standard. your best bet is to go to the junkyard and see if you can buy a whole car. there for that saves time and money on gas and any extra parts you may forget. therefore you will have the whole car with you to grab what ever you will need. i have done a auto to 5-speed swap. they are not easy. you will have to replace the trans, add a clutch peddle, add a hydro clutch, run all your clutch line, clutch slave, clutch, maybe a new flywheel, im really now sure if you can keep the ecu(might need to change it) i know i am forgetting alof of stuff but this is a project in a half. any garage would charge an arm and a leg for it. it would be way cheaper just to sell the car and buy one that is already standard. my opinion.
like i said let us know on the updates.

Okay cool!
Okay screw swaping it.Now if I keep the auto can I beef it up because I read something saying they got 11 secound automatic. Now on another note...What all tools do I need for the shifter cables?I will def keep you updated on what I am doing and get some pics of what it looks now cause I plan to redo the interior and I am pretty good at that.It does have a few mods, its has the apexi intake, dejon tool upper hard pipe, cross drilled rotors..I would like to get it up to like 300hp maybe like a 13-12 secound car.

Any hints or ideals
I would love for someone to coach me on what to do to make it fast. Thanks

sure if you have any ideas u can run them by i would be more than happy to help. right now i am in the process of converting my 97 into a gst. its a long and very time consuming process but it should be worth it in the end. before you do any upgrades how many miles are on the engine and trans that right there would tell you if it is worth upgrading your car. right now my dsm has 130,000 miles on it. but i am rebuilding the engine and the trans to knock everything to 0. if you want to make your car a 12 second car. than you will have to rebuild the engine. bigger turbo, bigger fuel injectors and fuel pump. pretty much upgrade your whole fuel system. try and get your exhaust as straight as possible. i mean there are a million things you can do. just need the time and the want to do it. most of all the money.
