I cannot get a power steering belt on my 6bolt swap. I thought I was supposed to use 2G belts, but it is nowhere near long enough to even get on, let alone allow me to put the power steering pulley back down and tighten it even if I got the belt on.

Do i have the right belt? Is there another belt that is maybe an inch or so longer than the 27 5/8" 2G belt that I could use? Am I missing something or should my brack have been modifid in some way?

Any help is appreciated!

Are you using the 1g or 2g power steering pump ? For best results use the 2g. But you can figure out how much you are short and see if the parts store has one in the same style that is long enough and save the part number for later on when you need to replace the belt.

I'm still using my 2G steering pump.

Thanks - I'll see what they have, just didn't know if this was a common problem or if something is wrong with the setup.

Thank you!

I re-used all my belts & original accessories on my swap. you might have to remove one of the p/s pump pivot bolts in order to tilt it enough to slip the belt on, sometimes it`s real close . . . :talon:

+1 If the original belts aren't fitting, don't go and band-aid the issue by getting a longer belt. There's no reason that your 2g belt won't fit. If it doesn't then something isn't right with the mounting or you're not loosening the PS pump enough to get the belt over the pulley.

Well I really don't know what else to try...Everything was reused from my original setup as far as pullies, I bought a belt that was the exact same size, and trust me - this thing is nowhere near close enough to slipping on. I've even removed all of the bolts just to try to get the belt on and there is no chance.

What could possibly be on wrong that would cause this?

I asked Darren at FFWD where I purchased the motor from and he is telling me there are "about 5 different part numbers for a 2g power steering belt" - does this sound right? I mean I don't even know who to call and ask to see if they have 5 different part numbers?

This is really sticking it to me now because all the rest of my parts are here and I can't move forward with any installs without correcting this issue, so any suggestions are appreciated :thumb:

The p/s belt on my 98 is part # MD310617 . . . I just completed my 6 bolt swap a month ago, & it went right back together exactly as it was before no problem. The p/s belt goes directly from the inboard(smaller)water pump pulley to the p/s pump pulley. If you`re coming up short, something isn`t installed correctly . . . double check the orientation of the water pump pulleys, make sure that they are on correctly (the lager diameter pulley for the alt.is on the outside,& the smaller pulley is on the inside) . . . :talon:

** RESOLVED **

OK, it was a belt issue...I had the wrong one!

I was trying to put on Delco part #5040274, which is what was in the computer at the local Advanced Auto. Well I went back today with belt in hand ready to spend the afternoon looking through each and every belt.

The girl looked up the belt I took with me and couldn't find any belt number for a 98 Eclipse GSX...luckily she made up for her lack of computer skills with great detective work :thumb: and found the correct belt for me!!!!

Came home and it popped right on - I was soooooo happy!! I can now move forward with everything else.

Thanks to everyone for your help. :dsm:

EDIT - Forgot to say the correct part #...Delco part #5040275
