clue: When Im driving in 3rd gear my RPM drops from 3000 rpm to 2500.

This is problem that doesnt interfere with the drivablility, but does have me scratching my head. Alright I have an automatic n/t 2g dsm (wish i had bought a manual) and i have no clue about tranmissions or anything. When Im driving and at the peak of 3rd gear (going from 50-60mph) i look at my RPM and it goes from 3000 rpm to 2500. it just drops, and you can hear it when it happens cause of the loud ass exuaghst, which lead me to look at the RPM. anyone have a clue why this happens?

Sounds like your transmission is shifting. Unless its grinding, popping or leaking I dont think you have a problem. Check your fluid level.

I know what you mean bro, I was driving my mom's Subaru the other day and it does the same thing. In the middle of second gear the revs just drop about 300 rpms for no reason, or if you are accelerating they will stay the same for a second or two.

And no, it is not shifting, and it has done this since it was new, so I don't think that it is anything wrong with the transmission.

My only guess is that around 2500-3000 rpms the transmission locks up, or in other words, the torque converter stops slipping, causing the revs to drop. Other than that I have no idea why it does this.

leave it in overdrive and see what happens.

I think all a/t vehicles do this. You're a student at Pennco tech; no one there can answer this one for you? WTF
I guess this is a red flag to NEVER seek advice or have work done at Pep Boys.
