hey guys. I installed my 16g (used) and ebay fmic and I started her this morning. The car sounded normal but then I drove her around the block and she started to smoke a bit( white smoke) and then I decided to open her up just a little bit but the car wasnt even pulling how the t25 was, then I heard a pop out the exhaust and the car began sputtering and turning off. I pulled over and I had a lot of white smoke comming from the turbo exhaust housing. When I turned it on again to drive it home, i couldn't go over 3 thousand rpm because the car felt like it was about to stall. Also i had a weird sound coming from the engine like a blown gasket or something. Please help

Solution
well I just ran home for my lunch break. And it was an intercooler pipe. I reconnected it and I strted the car. At idle I have no smoke. But when I rev the motor I get white very little blue cloud of smoke comming out the back. Also I'm getting smoke where the turbo connects to its other side. What do u guys think?
if that white smoke was a bluish white then bye bye turbo seals.
would it build boost?
and if not then did you do a boost leak test on your car?
also the sputtering sound slike fuel cut. mine used to stutter then would violently jerk and it was fuel cut.
and as far as the stalling does it fell like it wants to stall with the clutch in?
mine was the o2 sensor on that its AFR were not reading right since it was broken so it kept wanting to stall out.
what do you have as far as fuel?
and do you have an SAFC-II or link? or just going off stock.

I had to keep my footoon the gas pedal in order to keep the car running. I'm running stock. I wasnt even going 20mph y would I get fuel cut? It was building boost but it wasnt pulling at all. I could t even drive it normal. What do u think about the smoke? I just redid my head.

my car did the same thing. the 14b took a sh*t so i bout an Evo 3 16G and put it on the next day. i was so pissed because the 14b pulled harder. come to find out after a cloud of white smoke, the head gasket blew in 3 different spots.

It can't be my headgasket. I just installed a brand new one. And I had the t25 on after I did the head job and I had no smoke at all. So I know its not that. How can I find out if its my turbo? What do u guys think about the writs sound? What else could cause the white smoke? How do I check for water in my cylinders?

it can be your head gasket. anything is possible with a DSM. to check for water in your cylinders take all the spark plugs out and crank the engine over and have someone check for water coming out.

I'm thinking of taking the 16g off and installing the t25 back just to see if it runs better

I'll do it later tonight when I get home from work. Could my turbo be burning water? Be ause I did see a ton of smoke comming from the turbo itself

Please explain to me how everything that is brand new is perfect and that nothing can go wrong during an install. Or how everybod always installs parts 100% correct.

This is what made me think headgasket. That has happened to me before.

Take the spark plugs out and look into the holes while pointing a mini mag-lite in there. Or take the plugs out and put something in the cylinder like string and see if it becomes soaked. Of course make sure you have enough string to hold on to and don't just put all of it in there.

## right about that. I'll have to check with the string test. I honestly hope I didnt mess my headgasket up. thanks

depends on how many miles are on the turbo. the turbo wouldnt burn water. if the seals are bad it would mix the oil and water. check your oil and see if its a normal color.

I did check the oil and it still looks brand new. I changed the oil after I did the install because I did the oil pan gasket. When I fisrt started the car I had some white smoke comming out the pipe with no noise. But then I stated to drive and it got worse. So I didnt have any noise at the beginning but I still had smoke. I dont know how many miles are on he turbo. I got it used from a guy upgrading his turbo for 100 bucks

im still gonna say check the compression. once you do that you will know if something is messed up with you head gasket. if nothing is messed up then that is eliminated and you can move on.

If the compression is low in a cylinder, drop a cap full of oil into that cylinder. if the compression stays the same then its the head gasket.

Why do people always say this?

Doing that will make the compression go up since the oil will sit in the dish of the piston.

Have somebody do a leakdown test if the compression is low. If it is the same as when it happenned to me I would say the compressoin would be high due to coolant in the cylinders. That is also why it wouldn't want to go over a certain speed.

So I will do a compression check tonight to see what type of numbers I get. I will also do the string test or just turn it over to see if I get water.

The string is a better method since you will see gas coming out of the cylinder when cranking.

I hate to be an ass but did you check all obvios things like intercooler piping all sill on? Mine did the same thing one day and all it was the ic pipe had come off while driving down the highway under boost. shot out all kinds of white smoke.

ok, i am surprised no one said anything about this yet. You said you just installed the turbo and when it got warm it started smoking. When i installed my turbo, it smoked as well because a light film of oil had gotten in different areas that got hot and slowly burnt off. It will stop after all the film is burn off. As for you hearing a pop and then you could not rev over 3k RPM.....sounds to me like you may have popped off an IC pipe in your new installation. I would check these first before taking anything apart.
