So all the sudden, my car won't start. None of the lights go on when I turn the key and then figured out the new battery was drained. After recharging the battery, I try to start the car.

The engine turns over twice (without really starting) and then suddenly dies, everytime I turn the key. I just checked and there happens to be spark as well as fuel. Also checked all the fuses and all seem to be in perfect condition. The coil pack was changed during the whole ordeal, so that's not the problem.

The battery keeps getting drained if left plugged in, which leads me to think that it must be an electrical problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

i know you said the fuses are good ,but thats what i thought when i had a drain problem not to long ago. it sounded just like your situation too. i checked my alternator fuse without taking it out of the fuse box and assumed it was good because the top part of the fuse (copper piece) wasent burnt. after i took the fuse out of the box, then removed the little clear plastic casing, i found it was burnt but way at the bottom of the copper piece were you wouldent see it normally. check it out. good luck. also go test the alternator.

If the battery is fully charged the car would at least start but die down in a short time frame.

No.

Even on a really crappy alt or crappy battery, 9 times out of 10 it will charge the battery enough to keep it running on the highway and try to die at stoplights.

But if his battery is faulty (which it sounds like it is) it's not taking the initial charge to start the car...if he can't start the car, the alt. can't start working to keep the battery going.

and ontop of getting your battery tested make sure the connection terminals are as clean as can be. im not trying to insult you by inquiring its something totally simple ,but corrosion can really hold back juice from getting out your battery.

i still think it might be the alt. fuse or something electrical like want_a_gsx said. the way he said "all of a sudden, my car wont start" dosent sound like a bad battery.naturally battery's will slowly go bad, till the point to were the starter sounds like it can bearly turn the engine over and you drive around electrically handicap, then they just stop turning it over completely. ive never heard of a perfectly good battery just randomly going bad. but check it out just in case i dont know what im talking about.

gotta be the battery, check it with a dmm to at least see if it's got at least 10v after you recharge it

So I left the battery disconnected this time and it held charge. It's at 12.97v right now.

Even with the good battery, the car turns over twice and suddenly dies...

its not the battery.
if the car drains while the battery is connected and the car is off, then its being pulled by a electrical drain

you know what you should do? if its a manual transmission. try to bump start it. that should help you figure it out. if it starts you can say the battery is good.

What I'm having a hard time figuring out is why the car won't turn over, even with the charged battery. I don't think it's the battery because even if it was bad, the car would start, as long as it had a good charge. It just bothers the heck out of me.

What do you mean by bump starting...?

well if your cars automatic then you cant do it, as far as i know. but to bump start a manual car just have a couple of your friends push your car forward while your in the drivers seat. make sure the key is turned all the way clockwise, just as it would be if the car was on. have the stick in first or second with the clutch all the way to the floor so that the car can be pushed without resistance by the transmission. now once your rolling at a good speed ( 7-15 mph) dump the clutch or slip it kinda fast and try giving it some gas at the same time. it shouldent be super hard to start this way but if you keep trying it and you are not getting at least a little movement by the engine while then chances are its not going to work. if it dose work and your car can idle on its own then your battery is good!

just be safe when doing this. make sure you have a good enough run way to push the car and there isnt heavy traffic around. good luck mang

The ecu was checked and sure thing, the two capacitors are leaking. Great, just what I needed.

I have an automatic eprom laying around, does anyone know how it would run in my manual car?
I realize the injectors are different sizes, but I just need it to move...
