I don't know if I am posting this in the correct place but here it goes. Mods your more than welcome to move it else where.


I currently have a 95' Mitsu. Evo III


The car had been sitting down for 1 year. After about a month of convincing the owner he decided to sell it to me.


It is extremely dead (slow):sosad:. It had a flat spot really noticable at about 4K 2nd gear. I changed plugs serviced car the flat spot dis-appeared completely but still dead.

When its cold it runs close to what boost it used to run which is ~14psi but when it get hot it runs 10psi. I herd from people it could be the fuel pump and/or the knock sensor not sure but im going to change both unless someone can pin point what it is.

I have a new fuel filter new fuel pump and knock sensor to put in so hopefully that can fix it, i found a hole in the intercooler piping but patched it and it isnt leaking so i am going to perform a boost leak test and see if there are anymore.

But if anyone can tell me or direct me in the direction in which the problem may be would be a great help.

Please let me know fellas/girlies (if any)

Just wanted some takes from some more experienced persons around the 4g63 society.
 
How were you able to get the car registered in Quebec? Don't imported cars have to be at least 15 years old before they can be legally registered?

Anyways, boost leak test is a good place to start.

yeah i should change that the thing is they dont have a selection for where i live which is in the caribbean :S so i just randomly changed it to that cause i have some fam there, i should change it so that i dont get people thinkiing i have a III in canada LOLol

Thanks for thinking it could be a boost leak though.
 
hole in intercooler= major boost leak. fix that then run a boost leak test on the hole car and then go from there. Im pretty sure that the base timing is not adjustable like it is on the 1g so that would rule that out.

Was just thinking as well, you said you had the plugs changed when you serviced the engine, make sure that they are the correct plugs and the correct gap. I don't know if the same deal applies to evoIII's, cause the engines have some different stuff, but look for NGK coppers gapped between .028 and .032, I believe.

Yeah everything is gapped properly so im just hoping cause ive had some responces in other forums that it could be the fuel pump and or the fuel filter clogged up cause it will idle fine etc but from the time its under load it almost feels like im presing the gas and the brake at the same time......:sosad: pretty annoying but i just picke up my new fuel filter sitting here on my desk and hopefully when it change it and put in the walbro 255lHP this misery will go away
