Toronto,
Hi
I have a 97 Egale Talon TSi AWD with a dead cylinder. I bought a JDM Silver Top 7 bolt which came from an automatic along with a 5 speed maunal and tranfercase. Based on the sensors, etc, I think it was from a 95 - 96. I'll search / start a thread on the turbos later. I stripped the orginal engine and swapped all the parts over (alternator, power steering, A/C, Throtle body, Intake Manifold, etc) so I don't have to cut wires and have trouble getting replacement parts. The wire harnesses and hoses are very different.
What I want to know, is can I simply swap ecu's and will I get anything for it? Most of the threads seem to say that gen2 ecu's are compatible with other gen2 ecu's and there is very little point in swapping them. Is this true in my case? Any help would be appriciated.

Cheers,
lz

Answer... it seems to run with both, not sure which will produce more power.

Thanks,
lz

i'd check to see if the jdm ecm is a eprom if so i'd keep that one and sell the other to try a recoop some money for a dsmlink. That way you can tune and have alittle more adjustiablity for further upgrades if that's you plans.

What size inlet is on the intake manifold(52mm or 60mm)? Also does it have an MDP sensor on the top?

Probably the ecus are the same but I doubt that your motor came out of a JDM Eclipse. If it is a eprom then keep it but it wont have anything special that makes your car run better.

What does the turbo say on the compressor cover? Does the throttle body similar to your old one or does the throttle cable go on the other side?

I'm trying to decide which motor you have. It isn't probably relevant to the ecu discussion but it is nice to know and will give you a better idea of what you should keep on it and what you should ditch.

Also, do you have smog inspections?
