what happens when you use a 500hp turbo for 200hp?

I know the turbo will be out of its efficiency range but what is trying to be accomplished is getting one turbo and being cost effective in the build that will be progressive as $ allows. Can a bigger turbo be ran at stock boost levels without any harm?

With that large of a turbo, you're going to be getting insane amounts of turbo lag until that thing starts spooling. If you're doing a progressive build, start off with other things that a larger turbo requires first. Larger fuel injectors come to mind right away. A large turbo creating small amounts of boost is essentially a waste of a turbo especially if the supporting mods are not present. If you look under the Tech section and then Upgrade Paths, that will tell you mostly what you need to properly support a large turbo.

Well I think the stock turbo turbo is on its way out so i will run it until it dies but when it dies i dont wanna go thru getting a turbo that is not gonna help me acheive the power levels i wanna eventually get to. for now i need to research what can done ahead of time such as the injector size that i can run now and up to 500hp or close to it. i dont have a turbo in mind since i have been looking around and there seem to be so many different choices with good and bad reviews alike. I know i want one that will bolt up to the stock locations as the turbo comes though.

You would be better off buying a used 16g in the classifieds and using that until you have all your other supporting mods. A used 16g can be had for around 200-250 and you will be supprised how much power they can put out, especially if you have supporting mods.

I know you said that your current turbo is on its way out, but it looks like you have many other things to do first to support a big turbo, so that should probably be the last thing to look at. When your current turbo dies, you may want to consider something along the lines of a used 14b until you get the rest of the supporting mods in place.

if i bought a used 16g, does that bolt right up or do i need some type of install kit that ive read about?

Yes, you will need to get a 16G install kit. Basically a J-pipe and ss oil feed line, copper crush washers and gaskets. You can cannibilize your water lines off the old T25 and use them with the 16G. Plenty of good info on this site as to the specifics.
