Sorry if I missed this in the forums but I've been searching and reading for a while now and haven't seen any threads pertaining to this topic. If I missed it, could some one link it to me?
Anyways, I have a 1st gen 1993 Talon TSi AWD M/T which a blown motor (surprise...I know) but I have a friend who has a 1999 N/T Eclipse with a totalled body but great motor with 30k-40k miles on it.
So the concept, which I'm sure you've guessed by now is, would a 2g N/T motor fit and work in the 1g body?? And which such a concept, I have many questions related to such a swap which I need information from any one who has experience with any aspect of these cars.
1) Am I mad/insane, or could this work? What is the mass opinion on which engine is more powerful, the 1gen or 2gen? Obviously it would be easier and probably cheaper to get another 1gen long block, but my impression is the 2gen motor would be more reliable and powerful than the 1gen.
Of course, I would modify all the electrical connectors to adapt but as to the actual mechanical parts..
2) Would a 2gen motor fit in a 1gen body? If so..
3) Will the 2g motor bolt up to the 1g AWG tranny? (I believe it should, but I'm not sure.) If so..
4) Are the mounts similar? I'm sure I could adapt them if they aren't.
5) Would the 1g turbo system work or just keep it N/T? Use the 1g harness if using the turbo and adapt electrical connectors to the sensors and related items, or use 2g harness and keep the engine N/T and adapt the harness to the 1gen internals?
6) Use 2g clutch parts or does the 1g clutch parts work on 2gens??
7) Any other things that the 99' 2.0 motor needs that I don't know about?
Any information/advice on any aspect would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.
