I finally got around to taking out my a/c compressor
I was clearing things out of the way for my new injector install. I was going to reroute the non cruise control cable under the intake manifold and remount those crappy looking sensors off the top of the firewall to a lower and more hidden position. I eliminated the egr system so they just sit there doing nothing looking cluttered. i figured that since I was in there I might as well pull the intake manifold and remove that a/c compressor that has been sitting there being deadweight for the last 8 or so years! man is it a bitch to get to the lower set of bolts on the intake manifold. My forearms got pretty scraped up, but finally the a/c compressor is out of the car along with it's burly cast iron mounting bracket. the whole unit weighs quite a bit!

replace your forearms with weird tentacle things
man I am a big guy 6 3 250 and used to be a powerlifter. Big forearms. I had a hard time getting to the bolts on the underside of the intake manifold. I had to remove the uic pipe and the throttle body and the big bracket that holds the intake manifold to the block and went at it from the passenger side. My battery is already in the trunk. For how big relatively small the a/c compressor (and it cast iron bracket that holds it to the block is) it's pretty damn heavy. I have heard of people pulling it out thru the bottom and now that it is out and I have that whole side of the engine bay open I can't see that being any easier. The intermediate shaft definitively would have to come out. It would probably be easiest to do it with a combination of above and under car effort but I didn't feel like jacking the car up last night and crawling under it.

I was able it get it out up past the master cylinder. But there wasn't 1/16" clearance.

I had my car up on a lift. Pulled it out from the bottom. I wanted to remove as little as possible to get it out and this seemed like the only way I could do it.
It took a lot of finagling to finally get it out.

You can get the EGR blockoff plate
I just removed the AC crap out of my car. Soooo wish I could get rid of the power steering crap, but 255's may be a bit hard to turn without it.. lol

I did the PS at the same time as the A/C. I'm only on 215's though. It's pretty easy to drive, but I'll tell you what, a good alignment made a noticeable difference (I had some toe issues before).

I think it's kind of funny that you're asking this when you're in California. Seriously, I'm trying to put my emissions system back together, because I'm thinking about moving back to MD, but MD emissions are nothing compared to CA (MI emissions are just plain nothing).
Yeah, you can unplug it, but you'll get a CEL and you won't pass emissions.

I took it all out
with the a/c compressor off and out of the way. I was able to reach underneath from the drivers side of the car instead.
with pretty much all the weight removal done to the front end of the Talon other than a carbon fiber hood the front end sits even higher. It noticeably sat higher when I took out the a/c compressor. I'd guess that thing weighed 70 pounds with it's cast iron bracket. I have the car sitting on Toikikos with the stock springs since I haven't changed out springs to my H&Rs yet this season. I have been really busy doing other projects around the house and don't want to put my H&Rs back on until I get a front camber adjustment kit. I did the SS washer and longer ss bolt camber kit in the back. I guess I could say the car is all set for rallycross! After removing the a/c compressor the front end does feel lighter handling wise. Just slightly.

I thought it was near impossible to remove the compressor without removing the intake manifold. At least it's that way with a SMIM. FWIW I think the AC compressor only weighs 20 lbs, but that's still 20 lbs you took out

well
I did take the intake manifold to take it out. Man, I wish I had a scale here at the house that I could weigh this thing with. That a/c compressor has to weigh 25 lbs at absolute minimum. The cast iron bracket that holds the a/c compressor weighs at least as much as the a/c compressor if not more. Conservatively 50 lbs minimum with the a/c compressor and it bracket.

intake manifold is pretty easy to take out
now that the a/c compressor is out of there. I can reach down with a ratcheting wrench and get all the bolts off from the driver's side.
