Well many things have changed for me since I last posted to this site. I recently found a nice 95 gst eclipse with only 78,000 miles and driven by a 60 yr old man. Picked up the car for 4 grand with the mods listed in my profile already installed. This is a huge upgrade for me as I have two NT eclipses in the driveway that do not run and I have completely given up hope for getting the one to run, then 5 months later I found this gst. Well anyways, the awesome thing about this buy is what he had in the hatch. He had a s16G with manifold and o2 dump. The turbo had been completely rebuilt, no shaft play here, fins are in great shape. The confusing thing for me is that there is no TDO5H on the turbo anywhere. I know that it is a small 16G because of the # 49178-05200. I have quite a few pics for reference.

Where is the TDO5H writing?? Do I have a knockoff turbo? Also if this is a legit turbo then can I bolt this up while just reusing all of the stock lines? I do realize that I will have to get a different turbo outlet intercooler pipe to mount to the stock system and the necessary gaskets. I will also only put boost at about 12-15 psi until I get all the supporting mods to run more. I just wanted to show off my purchase and ask a couple questions. I have learned a lot from this site and appreciate everyones time and effort they put into this site. Kinda like gixxer.com peoples!

I read before that TDO5H are only actual mitsubishi turbos but there are other companys that manufacture 16g's

it looks polished.. but then again, where it should say td05h is very thin.. it doesnt look like its the same size... that is odd.. why would someone shave the tdo5h, but not the rest.. I think you may have a knock off, just for the simple face that where is should say td05h is too thin to even have it printed there.. Thats just what it look like to me...

It was polished. The guy I bought it off of said it was polished because that was the side that you would see in the engine bay but not anything about the lettering. He knew his stuff when it came to these cars, which was odd because he was so old (did not seem like the type to get into these cars) anyways he did not seem like the type of guy to buy a knockoff turbo. I will have to call him tonight and see if he has any more details. Is there any other ways that I can prove or disprove that this is a knockoff? I could have some of the dsm guys here by northwestern auto school take a look at it.

The turbo is not a knockoff. Ebay turbos usually have a bunch of crap written on it and it would be hard for them to take time just to put the correct 16g model on there. He just polished it and it looks like in the process took off the TDO5H.

Wether it's a knock off or not doesn't sound as strange as why a 60 year old man would have said turbo in the back of his car, not to mention you don't find many 60 year old men that just putt/cruise their cars along if they're shopping for turbos on ebay.

Are you sure grandpa or dad wasn't selling junior's car because of some bad grades or bad behavior? You just don't find many little old men that mod their cars so it sonds like some one fed you a line when they sold you the car.

It's not really important as long as the car is in good shape, but something in that story doens't add up.

Well its funny you say that because thats what I would think to! There is more to the story here. The guy works with my father and he was considering selling the car a year or so for much more money. I know that he was not selling the car because of his kids bad grades!! LOL This was his car for many years and all he did was drive it to work and cruise a bit. That i do know for a fact, because my pa told me how he drove it to work many times. Im not really too worried about how the car was taken care of. He has 3 other vehicles and he did not want it anymore in his garage. I guess he was in some sort of mid life moment and wanted to mod it very slightly to be cool. I just talked to a guy in my area that has a lot of experience with these cars and I am going to have him take a look at the turbo. I also was wondering if this turbo does turn out to be a genuine s16G can I realistically make 320-350 hp to the wheels with it or should I sell it and get a big 16G? (Keep in mind this is very far down the road as I do not have enough money to put together all the fuel components and everything else in a correct turbo set up)

Okay, that makes sense,. i knwo a few guys liek that in their late 50's and early 60's with WRX's.....

You should be able to pull anywhere from 325 - 250 out of that small 16g, you may have to crank teh boost, but with meth injection, e85 or just lowered timing you can still runthe super high boost and not have tobe on race gas teh whole time... I see there hasn't been any posts on this ina few days, but i just wanted to follow up
