I got my GSX in January, drove like crazy for 3 weeks. Spun a bearing. I just put a motor in it 5 days ago i bought from a friend. My friends are 10+ year mitsu techs.

I know it has 9:1 pistons and ported 14b, It got 13 miles to the gallon with him driving it hard everywhere. He took out the 450's and put in, I believe he said 290's. He gets 23 miles to the gallon driving it hard. I don't have a logger or anything, and I'm going to see why the CEL is on tomorrow. 20K miles on new pistons. My question is If there were gonna be ill effects of the small injectors would it have shown already? I drive hard too, lotta fun on 10psi

Double check to make sure. Because for one without a safc you couldnt even attempt such a thing. 2. it doesnt make any sense at all. Smaller injectors = better fuel milage WTF 3. Why? 4. Actually the idea makes sense. 290cc injectors + 10psi = BOOM thus no gas is needed because you are walking LOL. But seriously. Something is a miss. Maybe if somehow you were running 550's on a bone stock engine with no safc or way to control fuel then you would be running rich all over the place and getting bad milage. Then switching back to stock 450's would yield you better milage.

Its a manual, but the motor came out of a auto. I could have swore he said 290's, but the car pulls lot harder than it did on stock motor and 16g. I think i'm gonna go pick up my injectors and 16g off my other motor tomorrow. Thanks

i have wanted to make an economical dsm for quite some time now. whats stopping someone from tuning to smaller injectors, lower fuel pressures, via dsmlink or aem ems? afc type controlers wouldn't be able to fine tune as much so they are out. but i seee no reason why other 2.0l 4cyl engines can get such good gas mileage when our cars, while not that bad, aren't capable of similar #'s. just my thoughts.

its weird, these guys with their mitsu knowledge, only port and change parts. Never seen or heard them talk about any tuning. they do so must for power but don't tune.

Utilize the search feature to find posts on tuning and getting every last hp out of your setup. Next, the site is called dsmtuners. Most of us are here in the quest for more hp. Not more gas mileage. More hp = the need for more fuel. Cant make more HP by switching to smaller injectors and a bigger turbo. :beatentodeath: If you want 50 miles to the gallon get a pruis and get smoked by anything faster than a skateboard.

Hey, I don't care about gas mileage. I got the car because it was faster than a skateboard, and just about faster than everything on the streets here (little town). I was just wondering if anyone had heard of a person doing that to a turbo car. I don't get to talk to these guys much, their shop is far away or i would pick their brains but they are not deep in performance.

290s in a turbo car that came with 450cc. That car didnt last very long:) A turbo car doesnt use that much gas when not in boost. If you have dsmlink or an safc you can tune down big injectors to get good mpg. So injector size only makes a difference while in boost. Theres guys with 50 trims and 750cc injectors and getting over 20mpg

I cant say I have the faster car around my small country city. There is a guy down the street that has a true right hand drive skyline. I thought it was a fake because everytime he drove by I never heard a turbo. But one day we were on a 4 lane hwy and he was on it and I heard it through my window. But i would have to agree with dsmsucks. Stay off boost and you will see better gas mileage.

when i got my talon i was getting 18mpg in town 20 highway. Now with a bigger turbo, injectors, etc i made 23 in town and 27-28 on highway.

that's only using a logger and basic O2 sensor, can't wait till i get dsmlink and a wideband. car should be awesome both in HP and gas millage.

So just keep doing mods your gas millage should go up :sneaky:

I use 270cc injectors in my car , but I am running a 420a turbo motor. they only flow 270cc at 65% duty cycle on 45 psi of pressure. I turned the pressure up to 60 psi and I am currently getting around 25 miles per gallon.
