i just recently had my MR dp put in and since then i've been seeing white smoke with just a little bit of blue. this only happens after i shift or if i step on it and then let the rpms go down. i've been trying to find out what my problem is. so if you guys can let me know what to check and what to look for that would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like it could be valve seals, or turbo seals starting to fail. White smoke is Usually condensation from water in the air, usually that happens when its cold. If it is more often, I still wouldn't worry a whole lot. In some cases, say a blown head gasket/cracked head, it could be coolant, but usually you that is apparent because you notice a decrease in power, and in most cases a sweet smell. The Blue smoke is oil. That is where I believe it is probably valve seals, or turbo seals going bad. It could also be the rings, but since it happens only when you shift, I would not venture to say that is your problem.

I would check your coolant level just to be sure the white isn't your coolant. As for the Blue, You have a choice. You can figure out if its valves seals, or turbo seals, and repair them accordingly, or just keep an eye on your oil level and keep it up to par. Burning a little oil is pretty normal in DSM's, especially since they are getting so old. It would definitely be a good idea to know where it is coming from, but chances are it will not cause any immediate harm, and that it is just normal wear.

For more info, you can search for "bad valve seals" or "bad turbo seals" I am sure there are alot more posts with others who have had the same issues.

Sorry one more thing. I highly doubt your new downpipe had anything to do with it. Maybe you just started paying more attention to what is coming out of your tailpipe, since you were probably also paying more attention to the new sound/flow ;-).
