I'm in the process of collecting parts and making a list of everything I need for my 96 Talon TSi FWD.

This is the set-up that I plan on running, and I was wondering what everyone thought I could use. I'm not planning on using anything larger than a 14b on this car, as it's going to just be a daily driver while I find and build an AWD.

14B Turbo
Crushed 1G BOV
Walbro 190
Joe P In-line boost controller
Stock Evo Front Mount w/ Custom Intercooler piping
Stock Evo 9 Injectors (560cc)
Prosport Boost Gauge
SAFC II
Custom 2.5" Downpipe to 3" cat-back exhaust
Innovative DB Wideband
Southbend DXD Clutch (Came With the Car)

The motor was out of the car and stripped so I plan on:
Replacing all gaskets with OEM
Replacing Timing Components
Eliminating the Balance Shafts
New oil/water pumps
Possibly new rings, rod/main bearings

I'm also going to get a data logger I just need to do more research on them first.

But I was wondering what else I might need to run a decent 14b set-up. :talon:

you might as well bolt a small 16g on there...why not stock 450's? jw

From what I have read I would be overrunning the stock 450's when turning up the boost on a 14b. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I would of put a small 16g on, and that was my plan. However when I purchased my current turbo the guy said it was a small 16g, but when I went and picked the turbo up it turned out to be a 14b, but I couldn't pass it up for the price.

I also forgot to mention that the car came with a Southbend DXD clutch on it.

Thats pretty much the setup that I went with as well, you should look into the evo 8 fuel pump it is way cheeper and flows about the same not to mention its quiet. Also, I went with the evoscan software and a laptop for logging, hope this helps.

If you do a mild rebuild like your talking about you will have to at least hone the cylinders before you put new rings in it. How many miles on block, well actually are you saying the whole motor was stripped? If this is the case you need to check and see if there is a lip on the cylinder wall at the top, will have to bore it then. Before you do anything with the 14b I would check the shaft play and make sure it is a good turbo. I have only seen 1 that was still good but it came off one of my cars with 80k on it. Most are dead or almost dead but if it's not I think your setup looks pretty decent. Dont forget the porting- exhaust manifold and o2 housing. I wouldn't spend the money on the front mount unless it's real cheap. Side mount will more then support it or you can go with dejon powerhouses moddified side mount.IMO:thumb::laser:

The walbro is already on the car. I have been reading up on dataloggers, I'm still learning and researching them.

The motor has been stripped, why would their be a lip on the cylinder wall? Also the block is in great condition, still has the crosshatches and looks much better than any other 4G63 block I have taken apart. Would I still need to hone it? I don't really know how many miles are on it, the car it came out of had 102k on the odometer, however it was not the stock gauge cluster. I was just planning on replacing the wear parts such as bearings/rings since everything is already out of the car and easily accessible now, plus they aren't that expensive.

The 14b is in decent shape, no in and out and no unusual side to side shaft play. I know the stock side mount won't support much beyond stock horsepower, and I'm getting good deals on all the Evo parts.
