I am going to list the changes/ repairs on my car to tell you, everything that has been done to my car to rule out other problems.

I have a 1992 Talon TSI with 148,000 miles. FWD. New (replaced in the past 2 years unless noted otherwise): alternator, battery, starter, wires (10K on them), plugs (brand new, NGK V-power, 6 temp), clutch (ACT 3100 ish), flywheel (lightened), both clutch cylinders, wheel bearings, CV axles and seals, fuel filter, air filter (modded, K&N), water pump, harmonic balancer, and belts. I have also fixed the ECU with the correct capacitors. I have an EGR block off plate, Turbosmart boost controller, boost/vacuum gauge. I had the head rebuilt about 13,000 miles ago, replacing the valves, valve seals. The timing belt has about 15K on it. The car has a 3" downpipe and a 2.5" from there (to a muffler). I think that's it.

Okay, now for the problem. The car will drive, turn, idle, rev (all the way to redline with clutch in or in neutral) just fine. Under load the turbo will spool, up to about 15psi (where the MBC is set at) with the accelerator down about 3/4 the way. Immediately when I press the throttle to WOT or 100% it sputters in a systematic, repetitive manor, like a machine gun. It does not random miss, it is consistent, like a drummer playing a beat almost. I think it is the ECU battling something and doing it. It will miss probably 20 times per second, with each miss the same time distance apart. I replaced the plugs - no change. The wires are newer with about 10K on them, they are Bosch 7mm. I mention these because they are usually the first things that should be replaced when a miss occurs under WOT.

It missed once or twice one day, then the next day was a little worse, now it will do it 100% of the time when the car drives at WOT. Again, it will not sputter at all when I rev the engine in neutral, only under boost. On the side, I was driving with regular gasoline (I know... fuel is expensive!) but I switched back to premium recently, within 2 fill ups of when this whole thing started. Another thing: my valve cover gasket was leaking a little so I torqued down the screws (finding that one was about to come out!); this was within 2 weeks of this issue starting. The leak is gone as of now.

Has anyone had this problem before? I am sorry for the long thread but I wanted to clear everything up before you started making recommendations. Thank you, I appreciate all input.

I was having the same problem when I first bought my dsm and it turned out to be the wires. I'd at least test them to make absolutely sure.

My Tsi was doing this it turned out to be the ecu. I see that the caps are replaced though. -- You could send the ecu out for testing ,or try a spare/friends. Do you have a data logger to see if there are abnormal inputs?

my n/a eclipse also did something like this when the wires were bad as stated above.

Edit: You try reseting the ecu since running 87? , And there are no boost leaks, right?

I did not check for boost leaks or reset the ECU. I have alternated between regular and premium a lot and never had the issue. I would not rule it out but may be unlikely. Thank you for the advice, I welcome more

BOOST LEAK!! Im almost possitive that is your issue. If the boost leak is bad enough it will cause the AFR to go off and you will get a studder. I had the same issue and turned out to be leaking injector seals.

It was the spark plug wires! I am so glad I got that problem solved, sounded like not that many people knew what was the issue. I appreciate all the input and I hope this thread helps others with the same issue.

Thanks again guys
