timming belt install

hey guys i haD A question i have posted previous threads and you guys have helped alot and thanks for the help.but i was wondering if anyone knew if the timming marks on the cam shaft sprokets HAD TO BE ALL ALIGNED straight. when my two timming marks in the middle of the cam shafts are line up the outer ones are not i am able to turn the cams without having the valves hit the pistons if the outside ones are not aligned the valves dont hit the piston. so the final question is do they all four need to be aligned straight thanks for the help

What do you mean all four? Do you mean the two on the cam gears, the one on the crank, and the one on the oil pump? Make sure the dowel pins on the cams are up when you set the timing.

i am talking about the intake sprocket and the exaust sprocket. i have a total of four marks two on each. when the middle marks are ligned up do the outer ones need to be in line with the middle marks

i have a 99 this is only up to 97 the timming placement marks are in different locations thanks alot tho

I just did a timing belt job last week. All information is explained in the #3 post on the pictorial for installing timing belt. Camshaft dowel pins at 12 oclock, the timing marks are in the center. Outside marks will not line up through center with straight edge. Please take time and go through the information in the pictorial. these guys are great at giving the info needed to do the work yourself.

It's gonna be hard to explain it over the internet since my fingers are lazy. Go get you a Haynes Automotive Manual book for only 20 bucks from the auto part store. It also have pictures, details, and step by step instructions. It will be much easyer. Good luck bro.
