Ok Was in discount the other day pricing wheels and tires. Was looking at a 225/40/R18 package for my 99 eclipse spyder. So I need to know what people think because I have looked through this forum and still have not found this answer. We all know our cars have more wheel well room than most studio apartments between the tire and the body. I don't really want to lower tha car because we have gravel roads, steep driveways etc where I live. So the guy at discount said to go with a 235/40/R18 on a 8" deep rim. So has anyone done this or have pictures to see if it fills the space, or am I going to have to get a set of Eibach's to get that right look for my car. I would hate to spend the $$ on wheels and tires and still have it look like garbage. So the bottom line is I am going with 18" R1 Racing Drift Hyperblack wheels, and should I go with the 2+ combo which is about the same size as stock or the 235's? Thanks for your help....

OK to sum it up.....Sorry for being vague

Will a 235 tire fill up more of the gap to look like the car is more "dropped" than stock with out dropping it, or is my only hope to get the right look is to drop it. I know on Jettas, Hondas, etc you can put a larger tire and it fills the wheel gap giving the illusion of lowering. There is just so much space on this car that I think the only way to do it is to drop it with springs, and then if I do drop it are 235/40/R18's too big and should I just go with the 2+ size of 225/40/R18's?

Does that make sense.... I am going wheel and tire crazy... aghhh!

Thanks

You can get a drop spring that only drops it 1-1.5 in and be fine with your 235's. I would say to get the 225's as they are cheaper to replace and it's a minimal sidewall difference from 235/40 to 225/40. 225's fit well on 8 in wide wheels, do not round up at all.

width/hieght/rWheel size

225 is the width, and 40 means the hieght is 40% of the width. So, as was already stated, going to a 235 will net you nothing useful, however, if you went with a 235/50 or 55 you'd end up with a taller sidewall, and closer to accomplishing what you want.

I don't think you need to be too afraid of dropping the car. If you want to keep it easy to drive on gravel roads and speed bumps and sutff, just only drop the car a little bit. Something like the Eibach Pro-Kits would work. They only drop the car maybe .75''-1''. And they're pretty cheap. Thats what I have and it fills the wheel gaps well, but I still drive over crap like it's stock. Then you won't really need to worry about any rubbing issues becuase it is such a minimal drop.
