I am now a proud owner of a Red 97 GS spyder Eclipse 5spd with the 2.4L NT... I just got it today dirt cheap! it has 140,xxx on it... Alternator is bad, battery is dead and the motors that retract the roof are bad... but over all its in good shape (will post pics tomorrow)

I also have a 97 GSX that im working on, but needed a beater car to drive around in while my dsm was being worked on... however i looked at some cheap hondas and thought

" You know what the hardest thing about driving a honda is?? Telling your parents your ###"

knowing that, there was NO way I was going to drive some lame car... then I found this beauty, now I need some basic info on it

I dont plan on modding it ### its just my beater but I DO have a few questions

Will my old alt from my gsx bolt right up?
Do they use the same air filter?
and where can i buy motors for the roof?

and just for fun, what are the turbo issues with this car? I know it can be done but how hard is it?

here is a list of the parts I already bought but havent installed on the GSX:

Used Low milage engine GSX 7bolt
Exedy OEM clutch
Fananza Flywheel
Greddy type RS bov, with hose adpter 2 intake

Dejon BIG SMIC
SBR cast mold manifold
accel plugs
NGK sparks
New OEM timing belt
NEW OEM thermastat
NEW OEM water pump
Skunk2 Cam gears (got them CHEAP!)
JOE MBC

Parts I plan to buy:

Team Rip Stage 1 Tranny
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
SS brake lines
Pads
Rotors

parts already on car:

Small 16g Turbo
downpipe 3inch
magna flow hi flow cat 3inch
apexi 3inch exhaust

ebay filter

again buying the new car has left me dirt poor, :cry:I feel like such a DSMer, and im so proud of it!:dsm::D:D:D

For all your 4G64/non-turbo Spyder needs go to Yahoo! Groups
Also go to this site for a whole write-up and part listing of what Curt has done with his Spyder.http://4g64.150m.com/

I THINK the alternator will work.

I know the K&N FIPK and other open element filters made for the 4G63T will bolt on with the correct adaptor for the MAS.

Also, for the top motors, make sure that it is the actual motors that have gone bad. There is a pin in the motor that tends to break and not allow the top to go down/up. Search our forums here in the Tech Articles. There is at least one write-up on the subject.

Turboing the 4G64 is definately a project that needs a lot of time and about 2-4K in parts. That is just depending on if you get used parts or new parts and how much of a safety margin you want. I wouldn't really recommend turboing a 4G64 with over 120,000 miles on it without a rebuild or expecting a short life span for the motor.

Yea I thought as much, Well the turbo was just a thought.... My project car the gsx is where the real money is going.

Okay I got the alternator to work, the belts where just a bit loose... I got a new battery and reinstalled the interior panels and got some new speakers... all I need is to fix the roof motors, oil change, air filter, spakrs and plugs, coolant and a button for my rear side windows... But I have no idea where to start to look for such a small part, I would hate to have to buy the whole door pannel..

any ideas on where i can go look for small things like that??

You've got a great car. I've got a GS-T Spyder myself. If you really want to do something neat, that 4G64's the great donor for a well-built 2.4L stroker. You'll have to get oodles of 4G63 specific parts, the ecu, a good turbo, custom pistons, etc...but the potential is there.

Why am I saying this? I went and purchased a 4G64 block out of a Galant for just this purpose. At least you already have the motor. :)
