Are Flowmaster mufflers good?

do you think you could help me find one? I just need something under $100 and preferably like a 2.5' ...I think 3' would draw too much attention from cops?
 
Straight-through design is nice for decreasing backpressure on a turbo motor, but it'll be louder. I'm not sure how much it would benefit your N/T car, though.

I'd measure your stock muffler and try to get something as close to it as you can. The stock 2g AWD muffler has an offset inlet. If yours does too, then you should look for that in the muffler. Measure the outside diameter of the exhaust pipe just before it enters the muffler, the length, width, and height of the muffler body, and the offset of the inlet (if it's offset).

Also, that Flowmaster is aluminized steel which will rust faster than stainless. I bought a straight-through SS Magnaflow from Summit racing for the same price as that Flowmaster. Single 3" inlet, dual 2.5" outlets, non-polished.

If you want to stick with the Flowmaster, Google "Flowmaster 942445" and see if you can find a better price...or a better muffler for the same price. If you find that a different model would be more suitable, Google that part number and look for a reputable dealer with a good price.

Finally, my stock muffler had a piece of exhaust welded to it that was bent and flanged with 3 bolt holes to connect it to the rest of the exhaust. An exhaust shop is going to have to modify any universal muffler you buy to tie it back into the rest of the exhaust. You might want to go to a muffler shop before you buy a replacement and get their advice.

Flowmasters aren't designed for turbo cars. Their intent is for street-driven V8 cars that occasionally see track use. They generally offer a bit more backpressure than a glasspack on a V8 application, which is necessary for low end torque on the street.

Our cars would benefit more from a muffler with a straight-through design in order to release boost and lower EGT's as much as possible.

Plus, I hate the hollow drone that a Flowmaster gives a V8.....I couldn't imagine how it would sound on our cars.


As far as chosing a size, keep it the same as your piping to make things simple. Contrarily, I've found many 3" systems to be quieter on our cars (off-boost) than 2.5" systems. The 2.5" systems seem a bit more "raspy", but to each their own.
 
my car isn't turbo. I actually am planning to sell my ESI and get a TSI in the summer so I don't really need anything fancy. Something under $100 that looks good will do.
 
Yeah they sound alright especially a 3" system, just remember while your in there you need to port. Remember the exhausts on the two are a little bit different, so if you plan on upgrading you would be better off just waiting.
 
Sorry I missed a few things my fault. I saw TSI and missed the ESI. I also assume when you are going to replace a faulty muffler the exhaust is shortly going behind it.
 
if your going 2 get the straight through design muffler, your going 2 get that whinny sound at top end. get the flowmaster, deep mellow tone...it has more backpressure but your not going 2 get that much horse on stock 420a. also dont go higher that 2.5" inlet.
