I think my ecu went bad. Car starts for 2 seconds then shuts off but I have fuel and spark. I have the ecu out but can't figure out how to open it. Is there a trick? Its the grey plastic ecu where it looks like the area that the wires plug into needs to slide out. Its not the golden colored metal ecu.

It sounds like an alarm system is not letting it run. & I didn't think our cars had two ECUs, but hey, what do I know. Could you throw up some pictures?

hmm.. Not sure if 2 g's even have them.. but could it be the BCM you are refering to? Body Control Module.

The 97-99 ECU doesn't look anything like the 95 ECU. He has the right one, unfortunately man I have no idea how to open it since I never tried.

The best way to test ti though is to find someone with a working ECU that will let you borrow it and try it in your car.

Did you check for codes? That specific symptom sounds like a bad cas. I had the same Exact problem, start & run for 2 seconds,& die. I had code P-0320 in memory. It WAS a bad cas. Check into it. These 2G ecu`s RARELY fail. :talon:

I know the 95 EPROM ECU has a metal exterior. And the other ones are a plastic kind. There aren't any screws for it to open? Man I need to look at mine now. LOL

But yeah, find a friend. Swap the ECU. And go from there.

Well this is what the ECU that came in my 99 looks like.

I can't see a really easy way to open it up. Maybe you have to pry the metal bracket off of it but it seems like it would be real easy to crack the plastic.

There is nothing inside your going to be able to do anything with.

To open it you carefully pry the case at the top to release the two tabs and then the bottom ones should easily pop too. You can see the two top tabs in your first picture right above the connector.

That plastic case in the pictures above is definitely my case. I have an eprom with the metal case also but its tuned for injectors that aren't my size. So it sounds like its my cas? Thats my cam angle sensor right? My car runs perfectly except for the random 2 second no starts which only happens about once every 2 weeks and when I'm driving it will randomly die(not when I'm shifting) and I will have to pull into a turn lane for about 10 seconds or so until I can get fuel to go to it again. I have a constant check engine light due to no o2 sensor in the cat plus for the last year I've been getting a random injector malfunction cel but the car has ran fine with that. I'll check the cels today. If its the cas will the be a particular cel for it?

Not that I'm saying it isn't your eeprom, but i noticed you said your car would randomly die. Mine used to do that to and I couldn't figure out what it was until it died and stayed dead. It ended up being my speed sensor was going bad. Something to keep in mind if you don't figure out what it is. Cost me money changing out everything else but. :beatentodeath: (I like this one)
