Hey everyone, I have a stupid question to ask. I have a friend that is parting his DSM. He has a 2600 that I am interested in, but he's already sold the accompanying lightweight flywheel. How necessary is it to have the flywheel resurfaced and what repercussions could come from not doing so?

The car will be worked on and played with for this coming summer, but then put in storage and just used for a week or two a year for the next couple years while I finish college. I figured I would just throw the used 2600 disc and PP, give it a couple hundred mile break in period to let the disc wear to the flywheel, and have fun. The original plan was a Zoom Stage 2, but I'd be getting the 2600 for a great price. Anyway, thoughts on this would be great, thanks all.

ANYTHING from ebay, unless its authentic ACT, centerforce, clutchnet, ect will NOT, absolutely WILL NOT hold up.
I'm talking about those cheap ass clutch kits you see, which MAY be up to par with a stock clutch, but those are absolutely suck for anything above stock power levels.
I have had 3 fail in the last 6 months at my shop, it is not worth your time to save $100, even $200 on some.
Chinabay turbos on the otherhand I'm on the other side of the field! (for now)

Who said anything about eBay? Zoom clutches are rebrands of Fidanza clutches, I'd assume those are safe to use. The Zoom Stage 2/Fidanza 3.2 clutch is a sprung 4 pucked disc with kevlar friction surfaces. I have a friend whose father is either some sort of management or engineer with the factory that produces the clutches and hes done well with his 3.2/stage 2 so I figured it would be a good, low cost alternative to the ever popular 2600. Also my goals arent very high, I'm just shooting to do as best as I can stock appearing or nearly stock appearing. Now I have a big 16g, but when it goes either an Evo III 16g or a FP 18g will replace it.

I realize the clutch life would suffer, but if performance would significantly change then that would entirely defeat the purpose of throwing it in... the 2100 in there now slips even on a moderate launch and between shifts. I guess my options now I'll either wait for a clutch/flywheel combo to come up around here, buy a new clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced, or get the used clutch have the flywheel resurfaced and buy a new clutch. Being that I'm saving for college next year I have a pretty limited budget for the car for the summer, where I am now DSMlink and injectors are the next logical step after the clutch is taken care of. I thought that if I could save a little money on the clutch, I would be able to get link and some decent injectors sooner and thus have more fun with my car before she goes away. Oh well though, upped boost and a good tune with link wont do me any good if the disc is burning up even more than it already off the line and between gears.
