Squeeling from front brake pad?

Hey guys, I have read most of the threads I could find about this squealing noise coming from the wheel well and I think I have it narrowed down to the brake pad. Basically, the car has a high pitch, non-constant squealing noise that happens whether I am turning or not; accelerating or decelerating; and even in neutral when I am moving. From what I have read, when the brake pads wear down they have a squealing mechanism. My question is will this squealing only happen when the brakes are applied or should it squeal all the time if the pads are wearing down? Thanks

A worn set of brake pads can squeal when you are braking or when you are just driving without braking. It sounds like it's time to do a brake job.

they should only squeal when you apply your brakes. best to not let them go for too long as they sqeekers wear off.

also is it coming from just one wheel or more? it may be a wheel bearing

The noise is just coming from the front driver side wheel area. I thought that if it was a bad wheel bearing then the noise would be more of a scraping/clunking noise?

Pop off the wheel and check the brake pads. It's easy enough and it will keep people from telling you to check your brakes. No need for us to keep coming up with far strung ideas if your pads are worn. If you have a jack, it might take you all of 15 min to check.
