I was wondering if any one out there is/has run(nig) the stock air box with hp increse over stock, i live in ca and the cops out here are not to frindly with me :notgood:(i had a high hp 300zxtt) so im tring to keep things looking as stock a possable. I own a 2g gst all stock im not looking for mass hp just 250 or so whp. STOCK LOOKING AS POSSABLE!!!! any sugestions will help. thanks!!:dsm:

Im not sure if its like the 1g or not... all the 1gs i see are moddified so no stock box. and flat black is fine buy me.

Believe it or not, I run a somewhat stock airbox on my WRX STi. Reason for this is the MAF hot wire sensor hates any modification to the stock box. What I did was pulled the snorkel off the box and left essentially a 3" opening which really can't be seen and no cop would notice. Top end and bottom end power went up so its good enough for +300 h.p. without being being restrictive

I'd do the same to the 2g box, as mentioned remove the snorkel and cut the snorkel opening on the box to 3" diameter at a minimum. Will be totally invisible to the casual observer.

On my 2g I run an open K&N FIPK. On my STi, guess what, I don't run a K&N. I run a good old boring stock cheapo square airfilter inside my stock air box de-snorkeled. Why, cause I measured the pressure drop and guess what, air filter does not pose once single ounce of restriction to the intake system, not a bit.

All the restriction is in the duct work and snorkel diameter of the sealed intake box. You could buy a K&N drop in if it made you feel better, not gonna make a difference though.

I't leave the stock airbox alone, and let it breathe cold air from the fender as is the stock configuration (stock air box is a cold air intake). If you put a K&N FIPK, sure, it's got the CARB sticker, but the increased IATs from losing the cold air effect will offset any gains you'd see at 250hp. You could connect your boost gauge to the intake pipe as a test and see what the vaccuum difference is with the filter box properly installed vs "open" (top half off and filter removed)...but do this once somewhere that's not dusty ;).

You can get a FP Big28 and port it and your exhaust mani. Both will appear stock from the outside but can take you to 250hp on rewired stock FP and stock injectors.

I forget which Evo it is, but one of them has a BOV that looks exactly like the stock 2g BOV but it holds higher boost without leaking. The only visible difference is the angle the vaccuum nipple sticks out. Or maybe you could paint a 1g BOV semi-gloss black to look like plastic.

Don't know how good the inspectors are, so I don't know how hard a MBC would be to hide. I don't have any inspection worries where I live, so I'm completely out of that loop.:D:thumb::rocks::sneaky:

Would an in-car mbc work? You could hide it somewhere inside the car so the inspector doesn't see it.

I don't know how much the inspectors know about these cars, but I know that I'd be able to tell unless you somehow hacked the stock BCS. Ultimately, whatever MBC you try to hide has to connect to the WGA, so an inspector could trace it to all of the supposed-to-be stock components and see if any other lines are there, if anything is missing, etc.

Heh...it might be possible to hide the actual MBC plumbing in the LICP and provide the already-boost-controlled signal from the normal compressor nipple. Then plug the BCS line on the inside so that it would look stock but not be used. It'd be a pain, but...there might be a dollar to earn inventing this sleeper solution.

All suporting gauges will be mounted in the golve box for a clean and stock look. also i'm going to spend the cash for a ebc.:dsm:

If you want the stock look I'd go with the FP Big T-28. As far as the mbc... maybe find one and paint it flat black???... once again its all down to the inspector

Stock airbox desnorkeled and T28 is virtually invisible. If an inspector detects it he's a 2g owner for sure. An in cabin EBC and discreet vacuum routing is also nearly impossible to detect. A 2g compressor bypass valve can be modified to hold more boost, do a search.

Thats a good idea thanks!:thumb: oh by the way how do people feel about dejon smic? are they good for what i want to do?:dsm:

I know the 1 g BOV can be modded I have never heard of a 2g BOV being modded to hold more boost. How do you do it?.

To the OP get a t-28 and a evo BOV and it will look stock. Unless the inspector is a DSM buff You could probably get by with a 16g. Good luck

16g doesn't really look stock. You MAY beable to get away with it but the T-28 looks exactly like a T-25 to the naked eye.
