Hey guys, I got a question about my hood. It's an OEM carbon fiber style one. I live in Iowa and the weather here can go from 70 to 30 in a day. Now it has been fluctuating for the past month into highs and lows. I try not to drive my car alot in the winter so I haven't been around it much other than to work on it. During these times I leave the hood unlatched just so I don't have to fiddle with the release inside. I went to close my hood all the way the other day and it didn't go down. It looks to me like the hood has slowly bent up and can't reach the latch any more. Could this be caused by the weather changing so fast back and forth? Even if not, is there any way I can save my hood? It's not destroyed and I would like to keep it if possible.

There is no such thing as an OEM carbon fiber hood.

No. The difference in temperature from outside air to the heat produced by the engine is much more severe than weather changes.

I'm sure he means OEM style carbon hood. And I've heard rumors of warping, however when ever it comes up, all examples of guys who run them all winter up here in Canada, say they never have an issue, except for rock chips reeking havoc..

Not to terribly humid. It's not that rocks are chipping or anything I'm worried about. If you look at the hood from the side while it's on the car it looks like it is slowly folding up. Oh, and I said OEM carbon fiber style one if you didn't read it.

I read it.

I was responding to Mikael SS comment. Sorry to sound like a smart ass, but he didn't answer any question.

That's actually an answer, weather will not affect his warping, since it is insignificant compared to engine temperatures.

Well then could I fix my hood in any way? I was thinking of putting hood pins in and trying to stretch it back but I'm afraid of breaking it. Anything is better than nothing cause I don't want to spend $500 on another hood.

The only thing about hood pins I don't like is that if I do get it bent back I will have to drill more holes so it closes properly. I don't want the hood to look like a hack job and have leaks in it for rain and stuff to get into.

My shop has installed 100s of carbon fiber hoods here in Utah, there has never beed a wessther related warp issue and we go from 100 in summer to 0 in winter. You should take a pic of it and send it to whom ever you bought it from and ask them to explain it..

The only problem with that is that I got it used from a friend. Don't know what brand but he used it new for about 1 year. I haven't talked to him in forever and don't know how to get ahold of him. There are no markings to tell the brand of the hood. The soonest I can get a picture of the hood will be wednesday night.
