My manifold, and manifold tubing is VERY VERY RUSTY! I see no cracks, or anything, but it is very rusty. Does this affect my performance at all? Eventually I plan to change my manifold, but right now its not a HIGH PRIORITY. I do not have much cash available right now.

If it is important to change it ASAP, any good recomendations that work well on my car, and my pocket? ;)

:dsm:

Second generation manifolds are a cheap upgrade for a 1g motor. The only part of the manifold that affects performance are the runners - that means surface rust doesn't matter at all. If it doesn't have cracks, don't worry about it and save money for when you decide to upgrade.

Alrighty. I'll save up my cash, and try to get a 2G manifold when I have the chance. Since mine is not cracker, just VERY VERY rusty, I wont change it for now.

They sell some kind of "ceramic" paint, grey in color that is used to paint exhaust manifolds, 02 housings, turbine housings. Turbo shops use it to refinish the turbo's before the ship them back after a rebuild. Looks factory new.

Rust on the outside is not going to make a bit of differance as long as there are no cracks or leaks.

You have a automatic transmission so it has the smallest 1G turbo the 13B. Save up your funds and get a bigger turbo&exhaust manafold at the same time.

Now that you have your Tbelt changed you have 60K to play with it so don't be in a rush to through $$$ at it. And step 1 read up on all the mods you might want to make before you go on a spending spree.

You can get a lot of mismatched parts and be slower than stock. Good money after bad.:beatentodeath:

Wow. I didnt know I had the smallest turbo. That sucks. This makes me like... one of the most "inferior" ones here! :(

But anywho, I wont be upgrading the turbo, because I'm still 18, and my folks bought this car for me, and they will probably see NO justifiable reason for me to have a bigger turbo. They were scared knowing it WAS turbo.

I'm not sure how the grinding works btw. Do I have to take it to a Machine Shop?

you don't have to take it to a machine shop, all you need is a grinder. It will only take you about 5 mins to grind the corner on the timing belt side

Just drive the silly thing and enjoy it. To update the turbo it will take at least.

1 new exhaust manafold, eather 2G or EVO3
2 a 16g turbo even though a 14 b would help
3 bigger injectors, you have 390s go to at least 450s(stock manual transmisson) or larger.
4 updated or replacement ECU, The stock ECU will not handle the larger injectors.

and then for extras rewire the fuel pump & at least a evo fuel pump, a 2g O2 housing, larger exhaust system, and it goes on&on!

At 18 you have all the time in the world. Take the wisemens advice as sage they have been there and done that.:thumb:

All the info you can find by using the search mode.:sneaky: as they say let your fingers do the walking

I was thinking about getting new injectors soon, because I noticed that in the tip of 2 of my injectors, the rubber coat is comming off. If I get new injectors, I'd have to update/upgrade my ECU? Even if they are just 450s?
