Is the transfer case the weak point?

I am pretty sure that I have heard that the trannies are the weak points to the dsm, but what about transfer cases? When you do a performance rebuild on the tranny, is much needed on the t-case? Is there much to upgrade? I've been doing a little searching, but most of what I find are just people with problems...

Well its a awd just like most if not all awd turbo cars they have some tranny, t-case, rear diff, etc problems. Some are more then others some have no problems it depends on how the car, tranny etc was taken care of.

What year do you have?

Shep racing makes some good tranny/t-case stuff he runs 7's in the 1/4 mile, and is respected for the racing and years of knowledge on DSM's. There are a few others but that one always comes to mind.

I'd say the front and center diffs, along with the 3 bolt rear axles are the weakest, or most commonly broke parts here.

shep and others make a 4 spider center diff, and you can always swap a 4 bolt rear.

you can install a phantom grip insert that'll turn the front into a locker, but it seems too often the added traction breaks the diff.

If you drop the clutch on any AWD car you're going to break parts, no matter how strong. The proper way is to feather it out to ease the drivetrain shock.

Jacks Transmissions seems to make some great trannies. He is on here often and is very helpful.

Center diff will break first. Just get it welded. If you take your tranny out someone should be able to do it for around $100.
