i just hooked up my safc II and double and triple checked the wiring. Everything seems to be working right except my throttle is showing 100% no matter what. Any suggestions besides checking the wiring?

Edit: Could it be because my idle air sensor is out (or maybe its my tps, i can't remember its been a while)? I just remembered that, and if it is, how do i go about changing it? could a novice do it?

the tps has to be adjusted a certain way. If its never been touched, it could possibly be bad, and the tps just sends an open amount of ohms to the safc, which reads throttle as fully open.

also, what do you mean your idle sensor is out? do you mean it doesnt work, or its taken out?

Just a quick take on the TPS sensor.. It is a variable resistor. The farther you push on the throttle, the lower the resistance in the TPS circuit. 5 volts is fed into the TPS. When you are off the throttle, the resistance is high, so only a bit of voltage trickles through. When you stomp on the throttle, there is very little resistance, so almost all of the 5v gets to the ecu. With that being said, where did you tap the TPS circuit for the Apexi input?

Edit: Did you perform the step in the Apexi setup where it calibrates TPS? I believe after you select your maf type and engine type (with car off but ignition on) your supposed to not touch the gas pedal for 10 seconds, then hold it all the way down for 10 seconds and release.

You can actually look at the TPS voltage through the SAFC. At closed throttle, it should be close to 0 and WOT closer to 5v as stated. If the voltage reading isn't working, I would suspect either the wiring to the TPS is bad or the TPS itself is bad.

how do i calibrate it again? I got instructions with it but they are quite vague on that. I dont know if the sensor is bad or what but im getting a CEL from it (thats what my mechanic told me it was). It only shows 5.xxx volts at idle and 100% throttle when i go to "monitor mode". I tryed to reset everything but it hasn't worked. also the car seems like it wants to cut off if you rev it up a little bit and the idle is very poor. Any help is greatly appreciated as this is my first time messing with any of this stuff. (also i got the signal for the tps from the pin in the ecu as directed.)

if you got the Apexi Safc 2 then do the following:

under main menu, go to etc, then go to Sensor Type, select Karman

also under etc., select car select, for Cyl 4, and thr pointed up (I believe you might have to play with this a little bit. to get it right.)

and thats how you do it.

i did as far as you said, i did the initialize (will that defenately zero everything out?) and it still runs kind of rough. I can't figure out what ive done wrong (other than the trottle reading 100% everything else works great.)

One thing i remember doing on my SAFC II install about a year ago, was when you get to the screen where you select the arrow, select the up pointing arrow, then push the pedal to the floor for ten seconds. Then release. Although, i don't think this will solve your problem, it just measures what voltage your tps puts out at wot (since every car is different, and its never a perfect 5v. But its worth a try.. I was just searching around and found another thread of another 2g guy who had the same problem. He says he swapped the ecu and it fixed it, but I don't understand how this would fix it. Are you sure you have pin 84 tapped?

positive, i checked every connection like 4 times before i put the harnesses back in. I dont like to do stuff twice if necessary but im sure i hit the right pin, i think i just didn't set up the throttle on it, i couldnt figure out how to do the 10 sec on and 10 sec off (i couldn't figure out where on the menu to do it?) also, is there an easy way to make sure that its zero'd out?

When you go into the menu option and choose initiliaze, that really means 'reset'. So do the initiliaze and then go back and everything should be set back to default. Change the flapper type to KARMAN, CYLINDER 4, arrow pointing NORTHEAST. Now go back and play with the other options in order to get to the TPS voltage, and again, see if it moves from 0 - 5v from open to close throttle.

My bad :p, for the 1g guys like myself we select CYLINDER to 2 since we have only two coils. I don't know about the 2g guys.
