Double synchros transmission

Im 99.9% sure you are wrong. I don't believe any year dsm came with double syncros. Possibly The galant vr-4. It came with the 10% taller 1st gear.

As far as i know the only way to get double synchros is to get the tranny rebuilt by either team rip, jackstransmissions, or shep. They have to machine the pocket on the gear it's self to allow room for the extra synchro.

95's dont have double synchros. I had my tranny upgraded to have double synchros and i have a 95 gsx. As far as other years I am almost positive they dont because I have opened a 90 and it didnt but that is only two years out of 10 so it is possible but not likely.

No DSM having double synchros. If it had double synchros it wouldn't be the most unreliable part. To this day Mitsubishi transmission's cannot what the engine capable for. Furthermore in no way would I even dare to buy the Evo X that has a new era transmission. They can't even get the basis of a standard transmission. You'd be screwed to get the new transmission that possible cannot be performance modified.

As far a double synchros, only performance rebuilt transmission have double synchros.

Then why do all the tranny building shops charge you to double synchro 1st to 2nd gear on both 1 and 2 g cars?

i'm not trying to be a dick, but i think you or i are mis-informed

That's a good question why they CHARGE you for something that's already there.

2G's DO have double synchro 2nd gear ONLY. This is from 2 Mitsubishi Techs, I know personally, one who is a MASTER Tech who builds trannies all day.

Double Synchro 1st gears DO NOT EXIST from mitsubishi - they have to be machined for the double's parts are MADE - even in the EVO III tranny. 3rd & 4th EVOIII Tranny have double synchros.

95 up, double on 2nd.

This is correct. Only 1995-1999 transmissions came with double synchro 2nd gear.

As for the JDM side of things, Evo 3 transmissions came with double synchro 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. These double synchro setups can be interchanged into our transmissions with modifications (Late 1991-1992 requiring the least mods; the 1995-1999 requiring moderate mods, and the 1989-early 1991 tranny requiring the most mods).

The double synchro 3rd-4th gearsets are able to be installed in 1991-1994 AWD transmissions by using an Evo 3 intermediate shaft and the Evo 3 gear/synchro/hub/slider assembies. They are able to be used in 1995-1999 AWD transmissions also by doing a few modifications (using a late 1991-92 3-4 shift rail and 3-4 shift fork) The Evo 3 input shaft, Evo 3 1st gear and 5th gears work without modifications.

1989-Early 1991 trannies are a whole different boat, requiring a late 1991-1992 center differential housing, and the entire Evo 3 gearset, etc. to fit -- it is REALLY easier to have a Late 1991-92 core transmission with a good center differential (should have a cut line on the lower part of the gear teeth on the lower center differential housing).

The Evo 3 1st gear can be machined to accomodate a double synchro as well. To use the Evo 3 1st gear, you will need a late 1991-1992 input shaft; then you can use either the 1995-99 spec 2nd double synchro gear or the Evo 3 double synchro gear.
