i currently drive a 1990 eagle talon tsi awd 5sp. I am buying a 92 talon tsi awd 5spd for parts. I plan on swapping the ecu and the ignition system as well as the brakes. My 1990 has a lsd rear end. I was wondering since ill have my tranny out this winter should i switch to the newer transfer case and rear end or just hold on to it in case it breaks what are the advantages. Also is there anything else worth swapping.

also my 1990 has some front end damage due to deer when you change the front end over to the late 1g style what do you have to due to the radiator support to change it over.

i know the headlights are way different but my friend said to put them in you dont have to do anything to the sheetmetal where they sit. I know you have to do some wiring. I was just wondering if anyone has done it before, and knows exactly what it entails.

I would swap the 4-bolt rear end from the '92 into the '90. Look at both ECU's and keep the one with a eeprom. Keep the '92 around for parts, but things like the transmission and transfercase will not interchange because of spline differences unless you do both at the same time. (if you do that, you have to move over the shifter assembly too)

Just a note..if you do decide to use the 92 ECU, granite it is an Eprom....you will need to use the transistor pack, coil pack, and the tach from the 92. Also pins 6 and 14 need swapped on the ecu.

^ x2. The 90 and 92 ECU aren't interchangeable without swapping pins.

As for body, all 1gs have the same structural body, aside from one mounting point on the core support (for the 1gb turn signal). The only thing that changed between 91 and 92 was the headlights (and 92 talon taillight design). So hood, fenders, and front bumper are different between popup and non-popups.

the 92s had better trannys plus they don't have as many problems as a 90 also they are more appealing aesthetically too!

i know the 90 have a lot of problems but my 92 has cancer its starting to rust out underneath and my 90 is clean with under 90,000 miles. So I have to stick with my 90. 92 is eprom ecu.

The swap is quite simple I have done it on three of my own and several customers cars. The only difference in the 92-94 body pieces will be the bumper styling and the trim piece in the middle of the fender which you will swap out for the one's off your 90 to match the rest of the trim running down your car or in my opinion for a cleaner look you can swap out all the center molding around the car for the 92's it fills that gap a little better and since you have it why not??

Here is a list of what you will need.

92-94 eclipse/laser/talon any will work

hood

bumper (pick the one you like the best i prefer the talon)

fenders

headlights

corner lights

corner light mounting brackets ( you will have to drill the spot welds out of these on the 92 and have
them welded on the 90 or some people just use self tapping screws to install them)

Ends of the 92 headlight harness (to splice into the 90's headlight harness)

If you need pics or more info feel free to ask I would be more than happy to assist.
