harmonic balancer aftermaket

I know the stock hamanic balancer tends to break and I was thinking is the aftermarket\ebay one a good replacement for a broke hamanic balancer. Since it is solid aluminum or should stock be the only replacement for something like that?

Unless you have after market internals that are perfectly balanced i would go with a stock replacement. The stock ones have rubber between it to reduce engine vibrations. Vibrations that if bad enough could set off the knock sensor.

You can go after market with the Fluiddamper pulley. It is supposed to be better at isolating vibration and is structurally stronger than the stock pulley. There is a group buy going on right now, check the vendor announcements section.

If you use "harmonic" in your search, you will find why solid crank pulleys are not recommended (broken crankshaft).
I've not seen a track record for the Fluidamper as yet.
I've also not seen any other car go through harmonic balancers like DSMs do.

And yet again, the reason why we're such dicks about grammar and spelling here.

I bought a new "stock" replacement from O'Reilys and the rubber in it disintegrated in less than 2000 miles. Luckily it came completely apart while my car was idling and I was looking for the loud clank that had just started.... and not while cruising down the road at 70.

Thanks for the info. I've heard about balance shaft, harmonic balancer and somehow got them confused. Thanks. I'm a newb. This is why I NEED this site to help me with my project DSM
