Im driving home from a buddies house, I just had my apexi exhaust system installed... as im driving home I hear a POP under the hood and I lose my power steering and ac... wierd thing is I also notice that my brake, battery and oil lights come on and my car starts idleing at about 1500 then I also saw that my temp is going throw the roof! what in the world is going on!??! all of this because of one belt? I looked under the hood and saw a loose belt next to a motor mount on the right... what belt do I need to change? also the car was squeeking loud whenever I would turn it on to warm it up before hand.

thanks guys!

If you ask me it seems to me that you have thrown your alternator belt, which connects to your water pump. Thats why your car was overheating, in the process it took out the powersteering belt. Whenever you throw your alt belt your battery light comes on and so does your brake light. I don't know what to tell you about your oil light.

its just your alternator belt... your powersteering should be fine. the alternator belt runs off the crank pully to the water pump and around the alternator, you powersteering runs strait off the waterpump( notice the double pully in the waterpump, when you lose the alternator belt it stops turning the waterpump and powersteering, causing everything to fail....

yes but he also said the belt beside the motor mount to the right is really wabbly, which either he needs a new one because its stretched or he needs to adjust the tension.

alright, I got the belt replaced, it wasnt ripped but it bought a new one anyways, then I got that mount insert replaced too (why not) everything was working fine (WAS) then im heading down to the mall and I turn on my heater because my windshield is foggin up, POP! lights are on agian, powersteering is out and my temp is in the RED... Im getting off the freeway to park it and see what happend again, POP! again! smok starts to come out of my hood.

Turns out the hose that connects to the rad popped off and spilled coolant all over the place...

but now that? do i need a new pully? more tension? belts looked good

You could quite possibly have blown a head gasket. The reason I say that is thats exactly what happened to me when mine went and I had radiator fluid over everything not to mention it was right below my air filter. Was it smoking out of the exhaust any, did you look? You also need to make sure that the alternator belt is tight to where it only bends slightly. Did you try and restart it, what happened?
You also said that your car keeps over heating and throwing the belt. Check your water pump, does it spin freely with the belt off, I know when the bearings go they will leak but maybe they can freeze up (that is something I do not know but someone will).

I dont think its the head gasket, the car runs just fine, its when i turn on the heater full blast that the belt comes off... im thinking it might be the pulley or maybe its not tight enough... but I could be wrong

ya next to engine is power steering which you would know if you broke that one.. outer belt is alt belt.. did your battery light come on??

Yea the light did come on, does that mean my alternater was off? because when iI turned off the car, it didnt want to start up again, seemed the bettery was low (i bought it new aweek ago) So I had to park the car and have it towed.... FLAT BED FOR AWD!

As soon as that belt popped off the first time, you should have checked the crank pulley. I had this happen to me 2 weeks ago. My belt came off, power steering, alternator, and brakes were lost. My coolant topped out at 248 degrees before I shut her down at a gas station. Called AAA and waited in the freezing rain for the next 5 hours. Had it flatbed towed. Turned out my crank pulley was gone. They say they fail at 100k miles. Mine failed at 72k. No problem since I replaced it except for a loud squeaking coming from the belt. It must have been put on wrong or something.

But When i Replaced the belt the first time, the car was fine... it was even fine on the freeway, its wasnt untill I turn on the heater (ac) that the belt pops off, but im going to check the pulley tomorrow afternoon, yea it was raining like crazy here *Fresno* and man it really sucked, I didnt wait too long, plus I went shopping at the mall (gift card from work) so it wasnt too bad... but now I have to work tomorrow morning at 4am!

Check the pulleys before putting any belts back on. If all the pulleys and tensioner pulleys/rollers seem ok then put the belts back on and turn on your car. check the alternator output by using a voltmeter or look at your logger. you do have a logger don't you? if you don't you should. if the alternator checks out ok move on. Have a buddy turn on the heater while you stare at what happens when/if the belts jump off. If they jump off again, double check aligment between the pulleys respectivly. It's way too premature to say anything about a blown headgasket IMHO. It's alot easier to diagnose one problem at a time. first fix the pulley/belt problem, then fix other problems. If the alternator belt is not on, the battery light will comeon because the alternator isn't generating any power. the oillight comes on everytime your car key is in the ignition position.

#$%^&^%$# turned out to be the pulley, its all warped... then my car wouldnt start, we thought it was the aftermarket alarm.... after 3hrs.... it was the started. Im taking the bus to work... I STILL LOVE MY DSM!
