I'm in the middle of cutting out ALOT of wire in the 2g interior. We were able to remove the door wiring, all of the AC wiring, radio wiring, and air bag wiring.

The question is what are these 2 relay's used for? And what about the plugs that are slid onto the metal bracket? Are these all required for the car to run? The car is a drag car so anything other that is not needed to keep the drivable is not needed.

PICS:
Name that relay:

Appearently the OBD2 port wiring runs into some stuff that I did not want. Uh oh OMG Now i'm not sure how I am going to even get this worked out so I can use my dsmlink.

All the extra wire that hopefully is okay to ditch

With dsmlink you may have needed that OBD2 port wiring. Someone else will need to answer that question. If all else is lost though, check out megasquirt. It is a stand alone tuning tool, where you don't utilize any of the factory wiring. (you can for ease of installation, but for an extra $40 ($65 for it ready to go) or so you get a whole wiring loom) By doing this, you gut the interior wiring harness and the engine wiring harness. Then you only run the wires you need, so all the relay plugs that you took out (A/C, EGR, etc.) are gone, and only the ones you need are there. Also, there is no maf to play with, because you be switching to a speed density setup.

Heres a link to the wiring harness. MegaSquirt Wiring Bundle - 12' Long DIYAutoTune.com

Heres a link to the wiring harness that will plug right into megasquirt. (What I recommend) MegaSquirt I / II Wiring Harness DIYAutoTune.com

The advantage of megasquirt is that you are not using an ECU that is 12+ years old, it has a built in boost controller (with mod-kit), and it's less that half the price of dsmlink* :shhh:

*When I say less than half the price, I mean by the time you buy an eprom ecu ($200), dsmlink ($565), and socket service ($30)= $795

Now add together megasquirt. Megasquirt kits start at $139 at DIYAutoTune.com Megasquirt Kits / Assembled Engine Management Systems, Wideband o2 Sensor Systems and tuning products
Now dont forget you can add a built in boost controller for $7. (plus $20 or so for GM boost solenoid) Where else can you get an electronic boost controller that is controlled by you ecu for under $30? Not to mention you can have two tunes (one for street, one for strip) and it will change the boost (along with fuel curves and timing) to the desired level automatically. No more changing the fuel curve file, then changing the boot for it to match. It is all done automatically.

I say cut the weight of all the extra wiring, get more options with your tuning tool, get a brand new ecu that is not 12+ years old, and save a couple hundred dollars by going with megasquirt.

Edit: I just read that you have a 95, so dsmlink would be $200 cheaper on average. But then again, so would megasquirt if you sold your eprom ecu. If you sold it for $200, wou will be getting a better system, (IMO) with a brand new ecu, for free. Not to mention that the megasquirt forums have a whole section the 4G63 engine. And all the programming is free source, so you can upgrade software for free, or change it as you see fit with not legal mabo jambo. And with more people writing more 'mods,' there are numerous upgrades that can be done to the ecu for under $10.

The first pic is of your MPI relay and your stock fuel pump relay. Just to make sure, those I assume where found under the radio in the center console, right?

Your very welcome. I have been looking at megasquirt for quite some time now. Theres a big thread on it in the tuning forums of dsmtuners too. If you browse around for some information on the megasquirts (either one or two) you will find a lot more information such as true COP setup, having an extra set of injectors come on at a set level, 4 egt inputs, etc. You can also have a narrow or wideband input, and have it "tune itself" with fuel tables. (like what the AEM EMS does)

Be sure when you purchase, you get the right board and chip you want. Make sure it supports MS extra.

I noticed you are in Bloomfield. If you drive south to Toledo, there is a speed shop called Pure-Tuning. They have an AWD dyno, and they tune with megasquirt. I like to do all my own tuning, but if all else fails, you can take it to them, and have it dyno tuned.

I found that if you go with emgasquirt, you will most likely want megasquirt 2. I found this on DIYautotune. It will allow you to control stock ISC.
Fully upgradeable to MegaSquirt II Fuel and Ignition Controller

This unit can be upgraded to MegaSquirt 2 and you'll have the following new/improved features:

* Ignition control (full spark timing advance control, dwell control, etc) for one coil/distributor and EDIS systems,
* All tuning tables at 12×12 resolution
* On-board stepper motor driver for IAC stepper control (this will require a few jumpers to be added on the MegaSquirt PCB)
