14b Bad or Good???

K heres the thing when doing a boost leak test i noticed that im leaking a pretty decent amount of air threw my oil feed and return line holes!! I have been told that its common to leak and also i have been told that it mean my oil shaft seals are bad!

What do you guys think?? Time for new turbo??

Are you leaking oil through the lines too? Try replacing the washers, I just used regular copper washers from NAPA.

In my opinion, it should not be considered "normal". If air is getting in, it means your:
1) leaking\burning oil
2) pressuring the bottom end of the motor through the drainage tube.

I would just have it rebuilt, or go with a 16G. A rebuild is cheaper if you don't mind the two week down time to ship it have it rebuilt and shipped back. Oh and get it ported and port the manifolds while you have them off.

you definately have a problem iwth your turbo. it should not be leaking int tohe oil lines. did you check the shaft play? may have bad berrings or seals. but some thing is up with it.

Matt, as I mentioned in your other thread, during a static boost leak test some air will leak into the oil passages since there is no oil pressure to help them seal. If your seals are bad then you should be smoking pretty bad. If you have no significant shaft play, no burning oil, compressor spins freely and no issues with boosting then I wouldn't be too concerned at this point.

I was doing a boost leak test with the turbo out of the car but still connected to the lower intercooler pipe with all the oil and water lines off the turbo, thats how i found out air was leaking threw the oil holes! I am smoking pretty bad sometimes. Also the reason i have to turbo out is cus i just got done porting and polishing the turbo,exhaust manifold, o2 housing!
