I just finished re-building my engine, Got it in and running and it runs fairly rough. The best way to describe it i think is it sounds and feels, like it has a huge cam in it. Lobey idle, Exhaust note is very rough sounding, idles up and down, dies if I let the RPM's fall to fast, ect.

I checked the cam gears and they are on right, not off a tooth.

Im thinking a vacume leak or ignition timing is off. Any idea's?

Thanks

Check your maf is it plugged it? bad??, check vac lines, make sure the little balls on the cam gears pointed up when checking them and the crank gear is on the mark. data log it ?

Your ignition timing is not adjustable unless your using a 1g cas. Make sure everything is hooked up, then check the mechanical integrity of your rebuilt engine(compression test it).

check your MAF. doulble check your timming marks. Make sure you did not put the singer that goes on the crank on backwards, this will give a very screwy idle. also check your ecm. a bad ecm will give you losts of problems.

UPDATE: found a vacume leak on the back side of manifold (2 hoses not hooked up) and got that sorted away. But not its misfireing BADLY. Idle is super rough and about 400RPM at worst, if i lug it at all the car learches violently, if i put a load on it at mid RPM in a high gear under boost, it backfires really bad. I hooked up a timing light and #4 fires unevenly, and i can hear arcing. so i relpaced the plugs, to no avail. I checked the body and chasis ground, both secure.

could it be a bad coil pack??
I have a strong feeling its electrical.

thanks for the help!

i have the same problem on my 1g non-turbo might it be a ground i powder coated my valve intake and valve cover might that be it. Let me know how it turns out. good luck

Since I have not seen it,

Check your fireing order...

Also, your car dieing when you let off the gas can also be a result of a badd ISC or FIAV
