Was wondering if anyone has every used the radiator hose to pipe up their Intercooler? I am asking because I don't have a grand to buy a full bolt on kit. And plus, I always see Evo intercoolers and ebay intercoolers for cheap locally but, I never gotten around acutally throwing my SMIC out and with a front.

So, I am just asking and I don't race. Don't go telling me, I'll be losing boost pressure out of the hoses blah blah because the stock 2g IC pipes are crap so HA. ROFL

Will you be piping a FMIC or the stock IC? If you are interested in FMIC, I suggest you look into a SSAC FMIC from ebay. There is a huge thread about them and they are great. In fact, I have one and bought it just under $400 with short route 2.5 inch piping. Great deal if you ask me.

As for your question, you could probably use it but keep in mind under boost they will just suck up like you stock IC piping does. I would also suggest taking some measurements and get a quote from a local muffler shop as to how much they will charge you to make some custom pipes. You may get a pleasent surprise.

But I seriously reccommend the SSAC FMIC kit, look into it!

Cheers
Osman

SSAC :notgood: They don't even bother posting pictures of the core anymore because they have been so badly flamed in the past. They are built for bling and high flow numbers, but use terrible cores with either cast internal fins or none at all. Don't waste your money. Remember: An intercooler is a heat exchanger. You want one that has the maximum heat transfer surface area, and you are going to get that with a Bell core or equivilent, not with a Chinese-made cast core.

SSAC (and OBX, etc) even go on to say that their cores have almost no pressure drop. A intercooler has to drop pressure or it isn't working. Ideal gas law.

to answer the question: people do cut radiator hoses and use them as couplers and bends for IC pipes. so yea... they can be used.

"SSAC :notgood:??? "

hmm thats the first time ive heard that. obx gets flammed all the time. not so much SSAC. i believe there is a thread with dyno numbers to prove it works. it even said to be better than the greddy kit because it has short route piping... and im sure there are plenty of pics in the galleries

i was thinkin the same thing with ebayICcore/muffler shop piping. i heard the bends are restrictive blah blah... cant be anyworse than stock IMO.

I'm asking about a FMIC not the stock. I don't really want to deal with ebay unless its a goodspeed or godspeed, whatever. Anyway, I am also not talking about radiator hoses just for couplers or bends, I am asking using radiator hoses for the whole SYSTEM. It can be bad because the 1g UICP is a radiator hose and I think those are way better then the cloth like UICP on the 2g.

Anyone use radiator hose to run their FMIC?

It has supported high 11s, low 11s and 400-445 HP on a dyno...

I used it for a month before cutting my lower intercooler pipe to make it fit. It worked fine. Metal pipes are ideal, but rubber pipes will work. With the SSAC being around $350 with the entire kit, you can't go wrong with it.

Goodyear makes really thick radiator hose that'll hold boost. The hose has a red stripe down the side. It's sold in lengths. I have it at my work. I've used it as a lower i/c pipe before with no problems. I did switch it with a metal pipe after about 5 weeks though. Just for peace of mind.

I know some people have used Bullseye Bellowflex for IC piping. It may be called something else now though. I am pretty sure Bullseye was bought out of something like that.

Here is the link to the VFAQ for a Starion FMIC install on a 1G that has the pics.

The stuff is STIFF. Make sure you have big bends to accomodate the flexibility. And be positive you have the correct measurement of the O.D. I bought some to use for radiator hose and it would not fit because I bought it 1/16th of and inch too small. It would not stretch at all over the neck off the T-stat.

Oh yeah, and you can only find it at a rubber hose and fittings store. No radiator shops carried it, or even knew what it was.

Reinforced rubber might actually be better suited to IC pipes than metal. That's what the cars come with. The problem is that constructing a smooth one piece custom piece is not cost effective.
