Alright so this is kind of a follow up thread to the one where I was having problems with my shifter linkage. I believe I finally found out what the problem was and have included a picture of a possible solution.

It seems that when I put it into 4th gear the first circled piece rubs up against the radiator hose and thus doesn't allow it to fully engage/pop into gear. I can forcefully hold the shifter into 4th gear while driving, but when I let it go it often wants to move around and vibrate. I believe its because it is rubbing against my radiator hose and not fully "in gear"

If you look at the picture provided, the first circled piece is shaved/cut down so it will not rub against the radiator hose. Is this a good solution to my problem or should I get a longer hose and push it further away from the entire shifter linkage unit?

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.... any feedback or other solutions to this problem?

If you look at my linkage, I was told when I had mine rebuilt that the big weight is not needed. You can either remove the rest of it or leave it how it is. When I did have mine on it never rubbed on the hose though.

The weight is unnecessary it is only there to try to eliminate vibration felt through the linkage to make the car more driver friendly to the masses.

Does that 'weight' piece just screw off of the linkage or do I need do something else to get it off? I think I'm going to cut it, just need to know how to get it off.

I don't have a 2G, but the picture shows a hole in the side of the weight; that most likely has a set screw threaded into it that locks it onto the shaft. Look into the hole and see if it doesn't contain an allen (hex) screw on one or both sides the shift shaft.

Last time i paid attention to it, it apears it's held on with a roll pin, just get a suitable drift or punch and knock it out. then lift teh weight off. I jsut ground mine down further to make sure it didn't rub.

thanks guys, ill take a look at that this weekend... I think i'll grind it down too rather than cut it all off.
