I bought a 90 GSX back in May, and it has been sitting my garage since while I've been doing some exterior/interior work to it. When I test drove the car it shifted fine. I just noticed this now after its been sitting.

Tranny Rebuilt by Mitsubishi Graveyard
Rebuilt Transfercase
ACT 2600 Clutch w/ street disc

Problem: Just sitting in the garage and trying to row though the gears, when I pull the shifter to neutral it will stay to whatever side I'm shifting from instead of going back to the center (ie. if I take the shifter out of first or second and put it in neutral it stays to the left side of neutral, where I would have to manually bring the shifter to the right before putting it in 3rd). What can cause this? It didn't do this when I test drove it or when I drove it home. Just after sitting.

Also, I hear a creaking noise from just inside the front passenger wheel. It goes away with the clutch engaged. Possibly a throw out bearing? What sort of damage can this cause if I drive with it?

Well if I were you I would take apart your center console and check the springs that keep the shifter at center while in neutral. Through out bearings generally sound worse when it is cold and better when it is warm, however if you do decide to drive before this problem is fixed it could lead to disengagement problems.

When someone does a clutch install a throwout bearing would be included in that price, correct?

Are you talking about if you took it to a mechanic? If so, it depends on the mechanic. Some will know more than others and know what all should be replaced (or at least looked at), some will just install the parts you give them, and some just do their own thing without asking/telling you. Don't assume anything when it comes to mechanics. Ask them outright so that you have a definite answer.

Just make sure to always use an OEM tob.

Mine was doing the same thing. It was the bushings in the shifter cable end that attatch to the tranny. They were all bound up and wouldnt move. I bought the bearing replacements off of ebay. I think you could get them out of any skate board or roller blade wheel.

Yep, mine were the same way. I didn't buy a kit I just put some high temp silicone grease on tranny levers where the cables attach.

I had to put new ones in. Someone had replaced mine with the brass bushing inserts and the one was so bound up I had to almost chisel it out. I would recommend the bearings. They work really nice.
