Not true, if the balance shaft breaks only one shaft stops turning. So one will still turn and the car will vibrate terribly. If that balance shaft belt gets tangled in the timing belt, no more engine. So now you have to do a complete timing belt job.

Sorry, experience says otherwise. I have ran 2 dsm's with the b/s belt off and the other in fase, only difference is a little lower rpm vibration, other then that, nothing.

Alright, but as far as the other belt he should make sure it and any fragments are clear of the timing assembly.

Yes 97gsx is correct. Dont run you car anymore untill you get all the pieces of the belt out or it will take out your timing belt. I've seen too many peoples valves get bent because of a bad balance shaft belt coming apart and eventually tangling up in the timing belt and ruining the motor. And you might as well revove the balance shafts the right way while you in there

Your timing belt jumped some teeth. Pray you didn't jump more then 3 or your head has valve damage.

That will always vary shop to shop . Just hope the head was not damaged and it is only valve stems .

That was a joke since $500 isn't alot of money like he stated . But you need to pull the head before you decide anything .
