Hey fellas, I recently bought a set of Evolution 8 rims plus tires and the 235s are too big for me!

I was talking to this guy who drinks beer at my work and he told me about racing Spring Rubbers.

I looked them up and looks like a great way to stiffen up your springs and to prevent bottoming out your shocks.

I looked around and saw that its basically only on nascar cars. I didn't see any on imports or even hear anything close to 4 cylinders.

Any one try these? I looked on ebay. One rubber is about 20 bucks, I found. I was wondering what you guys think of these?

Never seen rubber ones but if they are like the old metal ones that you twist lock into the coil spring they are ok until you corner hard and they pop out and leave your tires rubbing. I personally would try to find another way. Just my .02

Metal seems it would be really bad idea because if your spring is being cushioned by the metal, it would tear it up! I've seen on a couple of sites that they have pre-made holes to put zip ties or something that'll hold in place the rubber when hard cornering. They use polyurethane so that its easy on the spring but them adds more spring rate to it at the same time.

If anyone shows that they used them and turned out good, I think I am going to pick a set of 4 up; cheapo suspension. :thumb:

You guys never heard of these before? Jeff Gordan uses them on his fast like a nascar nascar.

I think he's referring to the other way around, where the springs may wear out quicker. And though it wouldn't make much difference over 500 miles, it likely would put a whole lot more strain on the suspension after 5000. I'm pretty sure none of us want to buy and install new springs every 5000, or even 10,000 miles.

Also, I'm not exactly sure that NASCAR is something many of us aspire to move toward. Or follow. Or watch. Or devote any real degree of attention to, as the attention is going toward actual road courses, drag strips, autocross setups, and all the real fun stuff you can do to drive rather than going around in a circle for 500 miles. Seriously, WTF.

He is talking about the fact that something inserted into the spring causes the spring to flex at that point. The springs are not designed to flex in that manner and will fail at that point. A racing team replaces the springs for each race so they are not worried about stressed springs.

Exactly. NASCAR vehicles have a lot more financial backing than you do, and receive a HELL of a lot more maintenence. They're also driven MUCH less, even if it's (marginally) harder when they are (then again, exactly how much stress does it put on a car to be constantly turning left?).

Definitely NOT a "motorsport" to emulate. And that goes times ten in regards to any modifications to your car.
