Hey guys..

So anyways im getting a tsi soon and one of my friends told me that there trannys are weak and when u launch they break... so i was wondering if its true that they are weak/bad or if he just doesnt know what hes talking about. :thumb:

Weak meaning if you do 5000 RPM clutch drops instead of slipping your clutch and like banging gears at high RPMs and try to do burnouts, expect it to be toast. If you have an AWD, you have other things to worry about.

Now with that said, people have put 400hp to the wheels on stock DSM trannys. So, it is all in how you drive your car.

If you have an AWD you have to worry about killing your center differential when you do hard launches and your car has a lot of power. The solution is to get a 4 spider center differential, another option is to weld it.

Here are some tranny websites, the first one has a lot of info on it -

www.teamrip.com
www.sheptrans.com

Bottom line is that if you take care of your transmission, drive like it is going to die tomorrow, replace fluids regularly and it will last a while, unless of course the previous owner of your car drove the shit out of the car, nearly killed it and it is in its final stages, like my tranny.

It depends on how much power your car has and how you drive it. As other people said, it can take up to 400hp, but that takes away the primary purposes of the power in the car if you cannot use it. And believe me if you have that much power I guaranteed you'll have a hard time to stay within the transmission's limits.

DSM have strong engines that can take a ton of power, but the transmission is the weakest link no matter matter what year it is. To this day Mitsubishi hasn't recovered, the Evos now still have weak transmissions. It best to rebuilt the transmission.
