Hey I am getting a 6bolt 1st gen 4g63 block soon with a few other small goodies. The block has been sitting around for a few years so I am not expecting it to be in great condition. I was going to take it to a local place here in IL called Apex if any of you are familiar with it. I've been talking with a few friends and they have talked about getting the block hot tanked o-ringed and a few other things. I am also getting a 6bolt head to go along with the block. I currently have a 95 gsx with a few bolt ons that is my daily driver. What i mainly wanted to know was #1. what exactly should I have done to the 6 bolt block? #2. Should i get the 6 bolt or 7 bolt head machined and ported for the 6 bolt block? I have heard that the 7 bolt head is better for higher end power I think? My ultimate goal is to have a full weight 10 sec DD. I know it will take a while to get there and that is why I am asking early what would be the best route. I am most likely going to go with Wiseco Pistons and Eagle rods for the internals. I was also thinking of either having Apex blue print the crankshaft and machine it or either send send it to FFWD and have them work on it but they do cost more. I was also probably going to get a 50 trim and some BC cams and FFWD's fuel system. What do you guys think about the build? And what would you add to get it closer to my goal? Keep in mind i don't have free money to spend and I hopefully will have it finished by next summer. Oh and I also am on the stock tranny with a 2600 clutch.

First, make sure the block is in good order. If hot tanking and having the block stripped and checked is what will make you more comfortable with your build, then do it. There is no sense in just throwing an engine in place without knowing what you are working with. As for a 10 sec car, if you haven't been in the 12's, you should start shooting for 12's instead of 10's. If your budget is as tight as you say it is, then that's definitely shooting for the stars. I don't mean to be discouraging. I'm just saying start slow and make sure you are building a reliable setup as well as fast.

I'd hot tank the block. As said before, run 12s and high 11s (on a 50 trim) before you think about running 10s, which is not going to be cheap. Your 10 second goal on a 50 trim and BC cams is NOT going to happen.

Well my car has already run 12.8's with a small 16g, 660 injectors, DsmLink, ported intake an exhaust, and a front mount as my current setup. And I'm planning that this build is going to take about a year and I'm planning to spend around 4 grand possibly 5 on the new build. As for the block, I have not seen what condition it is currently in but I believe it has been sitting around for 3 or 4 years so I figured it will probably need to be taken into a shop. And you said BC cams wont do it for 10's then what would you recommend for cams and the other bolt ons to eventually get me there. Like i said before, it's not a quick build I want to take my time on it and make sure I do everything right and I'm willing to spend the extra money to get it done the right way.

It is not the cams, it is the turbo. A 50 trim is a high 11/low 12 turbo, not a 10 sec turbo. You'll need to run a FP3065 or GT30/35 type turbo on race fuel for 10s. Don't expect your car to just run without any issues when you run 10s, expect stuff to break - axles, transmissions, etc.

Yes I know that things will break. I have a feeling it will be my tranny first...it has 120K miles on it right now :notgood: . And ya I guess if you say 50 trims won't do it for me I will have to look at some FP's and Garretts. I just hope it will not be a huuge price jump for them. And for the trans, once mine breaks I hope to have enough money saved up to get a Shep tranny but I will have to wait and see what my tax return will get me :thumb: .
