I have a 91 Gst, and was wondering if the 90-91 Talon taillights were a direct bolt on. I like the Talon lights better and would like to know before buying a set. If there is any fabbing or modifiying to be done I would appreciate the details.

I know that the 90s are all straight bolt-up. If 91's the year that the center of the Talon tails curves downward, then no (but I believe that was the 1Gbs when that started). If they're straight across, then yes. As far as I recall though, all 1Gas are part-interchangeable on the body trim pieces.

Couldn't find the taillights I wanted so I just picked up a set from a 92-94 talon along with the bumper. I'll try to see how these fit.

The wiring clips for the 92-94 lights are different than the 90-91, be sure to get the new clips when you get the lights. The bumper will fit but you need to trim some metal from a piece right below the lights, I used a sawzall when I did mine.

You will also have to add a bulb to the exsisting harnesses if you go about the wiring that way. Here is a thread on the rear conversion.

Parts You will need:
Rear bumper
Tailights
Tailight centersection
Inner wheel well plastic pieces
Wiring from the newer style rear

Any 90/91 will bolt into any other 90/91 be it E L or T but rember to also grabb the center close out also (to make it look wright). The 92/3 bolt up different and the wireing plugs are different.

I spent about 3hrs. in a P&P trying all combos.

Stay in you same generation and all the outside and upolstry(sp) parts are samo/samo

Looks wise converted a 90GSX to a base Laser (from the outside makes it a real sleeper)ROFL

Wait... I thought that the GSX needed the bigger rear bumper to allow the hydraulic cushioners enough room to fit and work? Hell, now I'm tempted to do the same. Have this thing about the sleeper look, given how many cops out here actually know DSMs.

Have to wonder if the 1G 1.8L hood (no power bulge) could be made to fit on the GSX somehow (remove/trim upper timing belt cover, cut away some of the heat-pad on the hood), or if the clearance is actually THAT bad. Would be awesome to pull up to a meet in what looks like a Laser 1.8, and actually be the fastest car there. ^_^

As for the hood I think all of the fleet have the bumped hood. I do not remember any with out it.

As for the rear bumper hydraulic units I deflated them and tapped them in just a little. And the front fits up just fine the only thing you loose is the fog lamps.

And of corse look for a wingless trunklid.

The other fun one is switch out the kick pannels and horn switch to what ever car you want (just to keep them guessingROFL

And if you get real lucky and given time you can find it all in stock paint color:thumb:

Not true, like stated by Talesin. 1.8 liter powered vehicles came without the bulge.

I cannot see a 2.0 fitting under the 1.8 hood without cutting the hood or adding some kind of scoop.

Man going to have to look closer, the bumped hood (at least I thought) was the give away for the E L T (not emergency locator transmitter) and then you had to look under the hood to find what engine you had.

You learn somthing every day.

Have everything fitted on the car. Just had to bang some sheetmetal in the middle where the Talon center piece comes lower than the lights. The holes dont line up where the top of the bumper screws in but I'll drill new ones.I used the 3 plugs from the 91 Eclipse taillights and just screwed them into the 92 Talon taillight assembly. Only thing is the eclipse has 3 bulbs and the talon has 4, so I'm just not using the bulb in the very outside corner. The bumper fits with the 91 eclipse bumper support, but I may pick up a 92 talon bumper support in hopes that the screw holes line up.

yeah he is talking about my car, at first i wanted to go with the 90 91 talon taillights cause they look like a direct bolt on. and because they are better looking, plus im doing a talon conversion. My brother came across a 92-94 talon rear conversion and convinced me that we can make it fit. With a broken taillight, and a messed up bumper, I had nothin to lose. over all it was pretty simple. hopefully will post pics soon.:dsm:--->:talon:

Only the early 1.8s came with the flat hood, later ones did get the bulged hood.
Looks like I'm going to have to go out, take off the upper timing belt cover and run a string across the fenders to rough-guess how high the timing gears go. If it's ridiculously high, then fine.. but if there's a possibility of it fitting, I may have to look into that (and trim off the top of my belt cover if the hood WILL fit).

Always love it when people come up and ask me what the bulge in the hood is there for. There's so many funny answers you can give... from 'the battery sits there' to 'engine mount'. My favorite one that a ricer fell for completely was 'to accomodate the input lines for the stock nitrous system'. :D

I have never seen one, They must be like finding hen's theath. By the way I was at a friends body shop today and low and behold they showed a different P/N for the 90/1 1.8L cars. Needless to say only Eclipse and Laser.
