Hi everyone, quite new to the DSM scene. I own a red 1991 Eclipse GSX, and it's basically stock. Current mods include an Apexi 3'' turbo-back exhaust, RC 550cc injectors, Dump tube, Manual boost gauge, 2nd gen mas air sensor. The down side is, the valves are bent due to breakage of the timing belt from the previous owner. The engine also has 175,000 miles on it, so I'm in the process of pulling the motor out. My plans are to replace it with a fresh stock engine, built by overbore most likely. I have some ideas of what other mods I'd like to get for it, and I just want to make sure it all fits together and I'm not doing something stupid. OK here it goes..

Mods I plan on getting:

EVO III 16g turbo
EVO III exhaust manifold
FMIC
DSM Link

Does this sound OK? Should I get a BOV or waste gate, or are they unnecessary? Also, will I need to get an EVO III o2 housing because of the turbo/manifold?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks! =]

Sounds good, you dont need an external gate for a 16G although you could port it out and swap a 34mm flapper in there, the stock 1G BOV is fine, just "crush" it once you start running big boost, the EVO3 o2 is nice but you can get stainless tubular o2 off ebay and it will do fine.

Doesn't sound too bad, although you could get a 2g manifold for a lot cheaper and just port it. I'd look into porting or getting a new 02 housing as well.

When you rebuild, go with ARP headstuds. Use an OEM headgasket as well. Or if you plan on going for serious power and boost, go with a cometic. But from my understanding, you'll have to have some machining done in order for a MLS gasket to seal properly. I was going to go with an MLS but stuck with OEM.

Also, use a Mitsubishi timing belt as well. I've heard some bad things about cheaper oem-like parts.

And for the love of god, buy a factory service manual. I got my Talon manual, the actual shop one, off ebay for like $20 shipped. Worth every penny. That thing is pretty much my bible. I only bought the engine and chasis one though, I didn't bother getting the electrical yet. Although I would advise it if you have the cash.

Oh and as far as BOV and Wastegate.. 16Gs are still internal gated so no need for one there. Also your stock 1G BOV should work just fine. Unless you plan on pushing past 17-18psi, then I'd try and do the dodge garage mod. I'm not so big on crushing, but it works.

Hope this helped.

Thank you, SlickGSX and MountainDew for the very helpful and quick responses! Also, what is the 'dodge garage mod' ?
