I'm looking for a few ideas on a motor build. As of right now I have a 7 bolt in my 96 TSi AWD, for now I think I'm going to just rebuild the head cause I had to spend all my budget money on my VW....long story. Anyway, I have a 6 bolt block and head that I got from a junkyard. I was wondering if anyone had a few suggestions on any mods to do when building the six bolt. My goal is to have around 450 hp in the end. As for my budget it's still up in the air but I don't want to short change anything either. Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated, especially if you it's a mod you have on your own car. Thanks :talon:

One suggestion. . . Don't TOUCH! that 6-bolt short block. It has been proven to handle 550whp in some cases. 500whp very reliably. And 450whp is a breeze. You have your built block right now for your goal.

Teh head bolts are larger diameter than 7-bolts and can usually be seen running close to the 400whp range. But arp head studs are good insurance. Since you'll be getting larger diameter arp head studs (because the 6bolt block is tapped for larger diameter headbolts) than the 7-bolt counterparts, you can get away w/ a composite, stock or fel-pro, headgasket for your goal. And, it will still be very reliable.

I would swap in teh 6bolt head and block. The 1g head and intake manifold flows a little more thana 2g head and intake. Unless you pay for good port work. But, if you do what I say you'll have a the best head on your car that you have, and you'll have the head w/ the most potential off the car for you to save up and get some good work done to it.

I would swap in a set of 272 regrinds or fp2s. Both will allow you to use the stock valvetrain, and you'll have plenty of cam for your goal.

Look at a 50-trim compressor or atleast a 20g. 50-trim would be best. It all depends on how much farther you want to go AFTER this beginning. Even the new FP18G has enough breath in it and is a boltonish affair that is very affordable. But how far do you want to go after the bug REALLY hits good ;) ?

So a set of cams, the whole longblock swapped in, arp head studs and a new composite (oem/fel-pro) head gasket. That's it for the block build for your goal. . .

P.S. MAYBE swap in som arp rod and main bolts, if you have the money burning your pocket. But, it is not neccesary.
