I just pulled the turbo out of my 1G Eclipse and I was surprised to see that the number on the side of the housing is not TD04, but TD05H. I am wondering if these turbos came on this model of DSM or if it was swapped in at some time. The part # on the turbo is 49178-01030. Thank you for any help you can give me.

umm, TDO4's came on the 1g automatics, i believe all manuals have TDO5 housing

The 1g manual transmission cars came equipped with a TD05H 14b turbo, which is in the same family as the 16g, 18g, etc. The automatic transmission cars came with the TD04 13g turbo. If your car is an automatic, then at some point in the past, someone replaced the turbo with a larger one.

But just to be sure, check the compressor blades of your turbo. If they're all the same height, then it's a 14b. If the fan blades alternate height, it's a 16g variant.

so i just bought a small 16g. how much better is it than a stock 14g

so how much boost can i safely push on my car. it also has headstuds, mls head gaskets, 2g pistons, and arp rod bolts

You would need a logger or something similar to check for knock. Every car/setup is different.

About 70+ whp better . the compressor flows more AND the turbine flows more. The 14b turbine housing is abit small for it's compressor, IMHO. The 14b COULD flow maybe close to the small 16g except for the pitiful 6 cm^2 turbine housing. . .
