St. Catharines,
My E-brake dash light stays on even after the E-brake is not engaged. I have checked the calipers, and they are moving freely. Played with the switch under the E-brake handle, and still no luck. It does go off on its own sometimes after driving for an hour or so (and maybe warming up?) but can't seem to find the problem . . . . .

Any suggestions / ideas?

Thanks for any help,

Chris.

+3 for checking brake fluid. The brake light doubles as a low brake fluid light. If it has been on for awhile it means you probably lost a decent amount of fluid. You may need to bleed your brakes too.

I'd say +4 for the brake fluid, but seeing as how I have the exact same problem and have checked everything that you mentioned along with the brake fluid and it's still on. I'm not sure. I've read that only the ebrake handle and low brake fluid will trip the brake light, but neither of those 2 things are faulty in my car and I STILL have a constant brake light on.

Yea, I'd heard that it's somehow connected to the alternator also... This sounds like the dumbest idea ever though. Why would Mitsu choose the brake light of all lights to warn people that they're alternator is going out.

After checking both my brake fluid level and E brake switch thoroughly I was stumped thereafter for months. I finally got it fixed. To anyone else that has checked both they're e brake switch and brake fluid but still have their brake light on, try checking the sensor in the brake fluid reservoir. It may be bad or, like mine, just need a little wiggle or a small adjustment.
