Hey guys I've got a lil question. I just finished pulling my engine and tranny and I'm getting ready to take it to the machine shop. I've read around and it seems like a lot of you go with 2G big rods and '95 pistons.

Is there a certain reason? Plus I was wondering where I could actually pick them up for my engine?

Thanks for any help guys.

If you just get 1g rods and they are 1992 or sooner, then you'll be machining to install 2g pistons w/ out having stronger rods. That's ok, because the increase in compression the 2g pistons yield is good for spoolup and daily driving.

But, if you're going to have the machine shop do the work, I'd get 6-bolt rods. 6-bolt (1Ga or 1990-1991) rods is what you want if you want to have over 500whp potential w/out bending a rod or losing a rod bolt. And the higher compression 2g pistons are good to get you that throttle response. Though if I were to take an engien to that level I certainly wouldn't put detonation prone higher compression pistons in my build. A cheaper option is just swapping in 1ga (6-bolt) pistons and rods alerady assembled from the factory. This will give you that potential hp AND have the lower compression to give you more ability to run pump gas at very aggresive state of tune and boost.

If you must have the high compression pistons, then print this picture up for the machinist to use as a guide (this is sourced from the vFaq.com article, here):

Alright, well I found them on SBR, guess I wasn't looking very hard. But my car is a '90 GSX so it should already have the 1G "Big" rods I suppose.

Is there a marking on them to tell that they really are the "Big" rods? Is that what the G6 stands for?

And one last question, on SBR under the Mitsu pistons theres the 2G OEM Pistons and I know thats what I want, but then theres another option under those for either '92-'94 or 95+ Is there a difference and if there is which ones would I want to go with?
