so i'm a little confused on camber kits first what are they for i know you need them if your drop your car below 1.5 inches but why? and secondly i was told you can only use camber kits on coilovers true? thirdly how the hell do you install them are they easy?

On a 1g camber kits that aren't super expensive are just a bolt set for the front and a bushing set for the rear. They install in their respective bolt of bushing location and allow adjustment depending on the orientation of how they're set.

On a 1g, ANY lowering you will need rear camber kit. Past 1.5" on the front and you will need one.

As for why. When you lower a car you change the geometry of the suspension. The car lowers down and the lower control arms move out, pushing the bottom of the tire out resulting in negative camber. For a street car, this can result in too much camber and drastically reduce tire life.

EDIT, Also, you can use a camber kit on even stock suspension. In fact, i have a kit to go on my 1g right now for the front (if it's not totaled that is). You probably just heard that some coilovers have built in camber and caster adjustments.

I just installed these on the rear of my 1g when I did my coilovers. I am pleased with the quality and it was pretty easy. You'll need to remove the existing bushing on the upper control arms at the rear of the vehicle and replace with the new polyurethane bushing, which will hold an offset insert, where the stock eccentric bolt will go through. The offset insert will give you the additional camber adjustment you're looking for. Here's the link, good luck bro:thumb: :

Just in case someone with a FWD 1g reads this there is no camber kit needed for the rear on the FWD 1g's.
